Here's my suggestion for a new flag:

Any other ideas?

I want the same flag. The union jack is a beautiful flag.

I love it too. But if Scotland leaves the union then 'they' are going to remove St. Andrews cross from the flag. Some of the replacement ideas are truly hideous. I'd like to see some replacement ideas that I could live with.

"They" the Scots don't have any authority over the Union flag even if they do leave the Union: even places like Ontario - Canadian province - and Tuvalu - country in the Pacific - have the Union flag in the hoist of their flags, and these jurisdictions have nothing to do with the British government.

Hmm, not a fan of that design personally.

I guess we could just remove the blue and leave it with a white background.

Or a black background, like on the flag of St. David, adding a tangential representation of Wales.
I must admit, I don't have any ideas for a more prominent representation of Wales, and I do think they should have some representation.

Who is 'they'? I see no reason to change the flag. Scotland would still have played a big part in our history, so it's fair to keep the flag how it is. Like how Australia still has our flag as part of theirs.

Here's a nice flag, though no where near as nice as the union jack:

By 'they' I mean the English authorities, not Scotland.

The Union flag as is, but with the blue changed to black (representing St. David's flag) is my possibly the best choice.

That black background with red looks too circa 1930-40s Germanic to me. Why not orange?

Apart from the fact that the Monarch of that flag appoints the Canadian and Tuvalu governments and ratifies their laws?

Are you assuming that Scotland would become a republic? I was not aware that this is in view.

In any case, The Queen of Canada, when acting in this capacity, has nothing to do with the British government.

If it comes to it, we will probably keep the existing flag, whether it is logical or not.

Yes, why not?
For old times sake,
If it comes to it,

but it does not mean an end to a friendship.
Scotland will still be where it is and also the rest of UK.

Neither will be going anywhere,

It looks really depressing to me... like all the life has been sucked out of the UK. It seems like the type of flag we would use to remember a terrible war. That's just my opinion.

A black flag also reminds me of pirates and ISIS. :D

I don't see why there has to be logic to the flag. The inclusion of blue was based on Scotland, but we could continue to have the colour just because we like it. I'd think many flag don't mean anything, and there are sovereign states which still have our flag in theirs.

Isn't this premature? There hasn't been a vote yet!

Hi Lismore

We're just looking forward...something the Scottish should be doing over the next day or so.

Notice how the English on this forum almost all use the Union flag.

Are you assuming that Scotland would become a republic? I was not aware that this is in view.

In any case, The Queen of Canada, when acting in this capacity, has nothing to do with the British government.

If Scotland leaves the Union their political landscape will change dramatically. They will join the EU and get the Euro, and will move way left of where they are right now (under the jackboot of Conservative England :D ). Republic? Maybe, but apart from the near-term EU and a move left, anything could happen...

I hope not. If Scotland leaves, they should take their flag with them.

It may mean an end to the 'friendship'. It depends what sort of neighbour we/they turn out to be.

Perhaps some countries choose 'pretty' flags, but I doubt there's another country in the world which puts more importance on heraldry than England.

I don't see why it matters, and I'm not sure it's a good quality.
