When we read the Epistles of the Apostle Paul, we are told how God's Law was not ever able to save an individual or make him right in the sight of God. The Law shows us how that we are sinners, and exposes the error of our wicked hearts.

There is not even one of those laws that has not been broken. This is because These laws go to the heart of the wickedness of our sinful nature, and expose the motive of why we are the way we are. Don't get the impression, however, that this is any excuse, because God knows who we are, what we are made of, and what we need in order to be made right in His sight!

It is not the LAW that saves us, and if that isn't abundantly clear from what I have said, Read the Bible, and see what God has said about it.

Law keeping saves us...but not our Law keeping, Christ's perfect obedience to the Law saves us for He did it in our place fulfilling the requirements we could not. Christ's death saves us from the penalty of Law breaking.

Christ's active obedience imputed to us and His death in our place saves us...completely.

Yes, yes, 1000 times yes! If only more of the church understood the glorious truth of imputation. Only by HIS righteousness do we stand justified!

Sin kills, the Law just gave sin it's power until Jesus.
You are right that Sin Kills, but there is a specific role the Law plays. Good response. It moves the discussion in a good direction!

I Corinthians 15
56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

The Apostle Paul said the Law is our Schoolmaster to bring us to Christ. If it were completely abolished, it would not be doing that. The Apostle said of himself that he did not know lust till the Law came to him, saying, "Thou shalt not covet." (Romans 7:7)

Romans 7
9 For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.
10 And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.
11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.

Galaltians 3
24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
The Law shows us how we need to do what we are not able to do. The Ego of sinful man is not capable of doing what God requires. That does not keep God from requiring it, though. Until man is made into a new creation by the Grace of God in Jesus Christ, he is under the condemnation of the Law that requires DEATH as a penalty for the least infraction.

Romans 3
19 ¶ Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

Galaltians 5

18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

Hi Avid,

Yes, I agree. The law was never meant to save. As a matter of fact, when God gave the law unto Israel He never gave them any promise of salvation even for keeping the law. What God promised Israel was protection and providence in this life, if they would keep His commands. Salvation has always been and will always be dependent on faith in God's one and only Son, Jesus.

God Bless you.
In Christ, Ted

I don't think you understand the ego, if I am understanding you correctly, that you say it is necessary. The ego is the enemy of God, it is worldly and everything God can not stand. This is why we are not to have pride, pride is all ego and does no good. WHat does the Bible say about satan? he became proud of his looks and thought him self above the other angels even God Him Self. That Is pure ego.

In order to be save the person must take up their cross, indeed they must be nailed to it, this is the ego which must die, the sinful nature in its purest form.

Now the Law does this, when a persons see their sin they die, so the law puts them to death, if they repent and accept God, they are reborn to Life, resurrected. So Jesus and the Law work together. As a child we have a grace period, but when one reaches age the Law comes down and they die.

Yes, that is right. You nailed it. That is what I am saying.

The Sinful Human Nature must die, the EGO, the fallen nature of man. We have that (every one of us,) because we inherited it, through our earthly fathers, from Adam the First.

This must be crucified. We may pretend to be right with God, but when the law comes, and sin takes the occasion to work wickedness, that pretense fails and, we die.

The EGO must be nailed to the cross. This is described by The Apostle Paul many times in his letters.

Keep up the good work. This type of reply was what I had hoped to see on this thread!

And then we get baptism which is the enactment of dying with Christ, being nailed to the Cross with Him, and being resurrected with Him to life.

You may need to supply some scripture references to support this statement. I understand that there is a doctrine that states something like this, and am interested in knowing what scripture states it or intimates that this is true.

There are scriptures that state plainly that this is NOT true in certain cases, which changes the idea of it being a doctrine.

God did not give Law to kill us. They were necessary steps in the preparation of people to receive Christ who fulfilled the Law eventually. The letter of the Law is no longer sufficient to save us now.

That's true Avid. Whoever thinks it a sin, it is a sin.

What is so hard about understanding "it is a sin to him that thinketh it a sin"?

In other words, if you hate Gods law, it is sin unto you. Paul however say's Gods law is good, Holy and just.
The scripture passage is familiar to me, I am just not sure I get all you are trying to say by that.

This Thread was started because I hear this often, and even from Preachers. It is not something I would normally say about the scriptures.

The exchange has been enlightening from many viewpoints. It is for my, and everyone's, good that I ask you to elaborate. Even a short sermon is OK if you feel so led...

Your point is good, "...if you hate Gods law..." This is the kind of thing I sought to hear from people who know and love the word of God. Take that part as far as you like. We are interested in the viewpoint you bring.

P.S.: Let's not limit the use of the word, "KILL," to ceasing to breathe God's air. This may help...
