Which of course is not a good analogy because the forces opposing the dictator in syria are not outside invaders that are oppressing the people of the land and without any base of power in the land that they didn't need to capture first, but rather rebels coming from the land itself. At least, they weren't, at first. The outside forces entered the conflicted only far later.

Do you really think the soldiers of Saddam Hussein would have turned and run at the first sign of an enemy, like the Iraqi Army did? They stood and fought against the mighties military in the world, supported by numerous allies.

Lots of posts demanding we wipe out ISIS. Understandable, given their actions, but it is not that simple, militarily or politically.

Militarily, air power can destroy their heavy weaponry, but they will soon become better at hiding themselves amongst the population. They've been able to be quite open so far, with only a very limited threat from the Iraqi airforce, but they will soon adapt. The result is that eliminating them with air power alone will be impossible, as it would lead to unacceptable casualties amongst the civilians we are supposed to be protecting.

For boots on the ground, we are more or less reliant on the Peshmerga. Who will do a good job in Kurdistan and the surrounding area, but will not be prepared to head over to western Iraq and Syria to do our dirty work.

Then there's what remains of the Iraqi military, and there are Shia militias. By directly supporting them, we would be supporting an unrepresentative government which is a root cause of this crisis. This might give legitimacy to a government which needs to change, motivating more Sunnis to either join ISIS, or at least support/ally with them, exacerbating the whole problem. A further issue here is that we would effectively be assisting Iran's foreign policy; distatseful, given the way that country behaves, and something which would upset many Saudis and Qataris, possibly leading to increased funding for Sunni extremists.

Preventing the brutality we're seeing is an obligation that falls on the world, and on the shoulders of those most capable of helping. But doing so without further destabilising the region will be a very fine balance to strike.

I'll kick ISIS's butt myself. With a massive armoured jeep blaring Justin Bieber covered in Miley Cyrus posters firing pork cannons and alcohol tipped bullets.
Let's have a whip round, and see if we can get enough money together to cover your flights. I pledge $50

Also, "pork cannon"? I never heard it called that before...

Don't be so sure. The entirety of Islam is aligned with demonic influence in various guises, and the sun, moon and star worship of the ancients. Maybe just a coincidence, or maybe not. The devil has a sick sense of humour and his demons will do anything to receive worship, even covertly.

I pledge $50... we're just paying for flights though, right? He has to provide his own pork cannon?

Demons and their desire to be worshipped are entirely biblical concepts.

Ancient religion is very much tied to appeasing demons or creating idols, which may or may not be backed up by some displays of demonic power such as a spirt of clairvoyance, etc.

As for Islam it was revealed by the same angel that told Mary about Jesus. I highly doubt that same angel would then go round telling people that Jesus was just a prophet.

The fact is Satan can appear as an angel of light. Before you scoff, go and read it in the Bible.

Yes. The truly divine or the willfully demonic. Only two possible explanations for all of human spirituality.

Jesus said the only way you can go to the father is through him. He also said he is a jealous god and we should have no other gods before him.

God speaks of Satan being the "god of this world."

Why would Jesus be sponsoring other religions or sinful practices? Either that is the work of humans, or of demons, or both.

Stop saying you are rolling your eyes.

OR... they could just be agglomeration of traditional folk spirituality reinforced by humans' tendency to magical thinking and other cognitive bias.

No demons required.

Stop saying you are rolling your eyes.
Then stop saying stuff that is eye roll worthy.

Hey, read the post bro. I did say the origin of some beliefs could be humans.

However false spirituality comes into being, we do know a few things. Satan was instrumental in the first lie and demons do the work of creating confusion.

If something isn't from Jesus, it comes from sinfulness. Given the stories regarding the inception of Islam, or the evil spirit wards surrounding say, eastern mysticism, I have no problem thinking some of those may come from demons.

I also have no problem, biblically, thinking demons may demand worship in other guises. Looking at ancient pagan religion, there very well could be demonic input in the formation of those beliefs. Jesus even called some of them gods. There's no real God other than him though - so I must conclude they are probably impostors.

Nothing should be "eye roll worthy". It's rude, plain and simple. Also I know that what I'm saying is directly covered in scripture. You have dropped your eye roll line three times now and I don't think it's mature or warranted, so...

..,welcome to ignore.

I really don't think Obama cares...

I know if I were President I'd be ordering in airstrikes on ISIS, tomahawk missile strikes, etc. in support of the Kurds (whom seem to be about the only competitent military force in Iraq that isn't a bunch of fanatics).

It would cause more chaos than it would solve.

America isn't nearly as powerful as people seem to think, it can't go around just bombing everything, especially considering how hard it's falling right now...

Besides, you can't fight something like ISIS, it's like trying to box shadows.

America still has more power than ISIS, but I agree it might not be so easy as throwing some rockets around.

Paganism is not dogmatic. It has nothing to do with any specific set of rules or 'rituals'.
Seems to me plenty of pagan religions have rules, rites and rituals.

Besides, that scripture is a blanket statement. It's just saying that what is truely behind pagan religion is not the spirit of God. So go figure what spirits they might be...
