FYI for reformed folks here. The Noah movie is a great conversation starter for reformed theology. The movie portrays total depravity (including in Noah and his own family, in fact the climax of the entire film hinges on this point.) God's sovereignty is also super obvious throughout the film. God miraculously provides wives for two of Noah's sons, He starts the flood at just the worst possible time (God loves bad timing sometimes), the flood ends at the best possible time (God also LOVES doing that!), and the whole reason Noah and his family is saved the movie makes clear is not by their own merits, but His mercy.

I have no clue how all of this made it into a Hollywood movie. But I am very pleased.

My full review is here.

Good review, but a lot of it can be imagination (such as when people see "new world order" symbolism in Beyonce videos) and further, I think he misses that the Creator is the one who specifically forgives in the movie.

Being that it is Hollywood, I would not be surprised if Kaballah imagery is borrowed, just like stuff from the book of enoch was borrowed. The question is how it affects the film's soteriology, and in fact, the film does not have a gnostic soteriology. Knowledge does not save in the movie.

I've been a fan of Russell Crowe since Gladiator but we walked out of this film. Someone intended to insult the Bible and Christians the world over. And they did a really good job starting early on.
Thankfully, I checked the movie schedule for other movie start times and we got our monies worth slipping into a different film just down the hall.

Oh, Russell. Whatever they paid you to make that monster, it wasn't enough boy-o. It sure wasn't enough.

I have not seen it nor will I, Hollywood could have produced an epic movie about a momentous event in human history, what do they do? Hire an atheist director and put together a movie that is a complete lie. No thanks.

I just want to know, is anyone here really confident that Gen 6 is really talking about fallen angels to begin with? Are Christians that wedded to such an interpretation?

That's a ridiculous interpretation IMHO...In the previous chapters leading up to this we're shown 2 competing lines on the the Earth. The godly line of Seth and the wicked line of Cain..When Seth's line became apostate by marrying and mingling with Cain's line evil increased and deepened leading to the flood/judgement.
Satan and the demons are not creators, they can do fantastic tricks, but they can not create life or procreate.

The last time I checked the box office receipts, noah had accumulated 50 mil with a huge drop off after the first week, the film cost around 125 mil to make, hopefully this trend will continue and send a message to producers of faith based films, don't mess around with what the scripture says and expect Christians to support a perverted version of the truth.

As an update, it is interesting that speaking to one of my customers (an Arminian Baptist pastor) he takes the "sons of God = fallen angels" interpretation of Genesis 6. Of course if one is wedded to this interpretation, it makes the movie's presentation of Nephilim more than just imaginative but instead outright wrong.

I do wonder whether a lot of the people panning the movie actually watched it and what exactly they disagree with the movie that isn't "that rock monster's name is the same as a Jewish name found in Kabbalah," or some sort of detail that has nothing to do with the movie's plot or message.

I have not seen it but base my analysis on the reviews of other Christians that have, the fact that God destroyed the populace of the world because of the immorality of the human race, not the version left wing Hollywood atheists/environmentalists who re-wrote scripture would have us believe.

I agree.. I got the jist of it from some critics I trust. I don't feel any need to spend money in order to critique an artsy/atheist version of the true story. For curiosity's sake I'll probably watch it on Netflix when it comes.

The problem is that God destroyed the entire populace in the film because of their sin, it does not have to do with environmentalism. Even Noah says in the movie, "God didn't choose me because I'm good, he chose me to get the job done." The whole climax of the movie revolves around the inescapable conclusion that everyone, including new born babies, are imputed with sin from Adam.

I think it is fine not to go watch the movie if you trust a reviewer, but to bash something and make false claims about it is in my mind the wrong thing to do.
