World Vision Reverses Decision to Allow Same-Sex Marriage



Two days ago, World Vision U.S., one of the largest Christian charities in the country, changed its guidelines to allow for employees in same-sex marriages. Now, it is reversing that decision.


The decision to allow gay marriage among employees was widely criticized, and many donors wrote as much on the charity’s Facebook page. One major Pentecostal denomination urged members to switch their World Vision contributions to other charities. Wednesday’s news caused them to relent as well.


The result of threats of potential lost funding caused World Vision’s board to vote unanimously on Wednesday to reverse its decision and stick to heterosexual marriage only.
In a letter to donors, World Vision’s President, Richard Stearns wrote:

In our board’s effort to unite around the church’s shared mission to serve the poor in the name of Christ, we failed to be consistent with World Vision U.S.’s commitment to the traditional understanding of Biblical marriage and our own Statement of Faith … We also failed to seek enough counsel from our own Christian Partners. As a result, we made a change to our conduct policy that was not consistent with our Statement of Faith and our commitment to the sanctity of marriage.
We are brokenhearted over the pain and confusion we have caused many of our friends, who saw this decision as a reversal of our strong commitment to Biblical authority. We ask that you understand that this was never the board’s intent.

World Vision Reverses Decision to Allow Same-Sex Marriage

I think that we all understand that with the threat of loss of contributions World Vision made a business decision to play Biblical again, but it was a business decision, revealing World Vision to be more interested in the business than God, the Gospel, and helping the needy.

I know that I can find better places for any future charity giving.

Jim, AT&T doesn't stand for "all tell the truth" and as for the rest of the major companies in America God said not to love the world or the love of the father would not be in us.

World Vision stands for the visions of Christ not the visions of the world to accept gay marriage. It's happening on our watch and we better watch out.

I do hope those people who had sponsorship will go back and pick them up again, but the blame lies at the cause of the problem.

These people weren't planning to drop sponsorship this month but were pushed by World Vision to do so. They willingly forced the sponsors into this situation.

A blind man could have seen this result coming a million miles away. I find it hard to believe that World Vision didn't know that they would lose quite a few sponsorships as part of initial reaction to their decision, and if they did so, then it is they who deemed these 10,000 children as "acceptable" losses for the sake of their political statement.

"Im Not going to give up".... then you list all worldly matarial things..you speak on a different topic i know..but it is interesting, the sentiment beneath your words.for the sake of rightousness you will give up all those things or reject the cross.
But mostly we speak of whether we should seek other means by which to sponsor folks in great need.

What is notable is ...in all sposorship organisations..it is predominantly christians who have been the consistant supporters...

AT&T and Walmart also don't go around giving the impression they are organizations who base their conduct on faith in the person and teachings of Christ either. When an organization that does make such claims does these types of things, it the name of Christ that gets dragged down with them.

The words ‘reprobate mind’ come from the Bible, and describe as aberrant to good and Godly thinking, this homosexual sin, is to be regarded as ungodly, in need of healing. So, in retaliation of truthful description of their sin, they have opposed us by calling us ‘homophobes’. Actually, Christians do not want to take away their human rights. They can vote, work, collect social security, etc. be treated as all Americans are guaranteed the right to be treated. To destroy the family unit, to change the meaning of marriage, to teach in schools that homosexuality is normal, genetic, and should be tried by the youth, is a perversion of reality, that we have a right to challenge with our free speech. The family is a fundamental cell of human society, marriage is an institution started and defined by God. The state did not originate marriage, and cannot therefore redefine it, or change its nature.

To avoid being called a ‘homophobe’, they expect we will not notice that the rates of depression, anxiety, eating disorders, addictions, and suicidal thoughts is proven far higher in homosexual people. The Lauman Report (1994) found that boys who adopt a homosexual lifestyle, due to the influence of homosexual family style, face a 30% greater chance of being dead or HIV positive by the age of 30.

No, we are not ‘homophobes’, but are in agreement with the Bible, i.e. God’s Word, that it is an aberrant condition that needs healing. We realize the person and the personal rights of homosexuals, but we defend the God-instituted marriage, we claim that homosexual acts offend God, and are needing repentance (change of mind) and healing.

The laws that many are proposing in Congress make homosexuality a constitutionally protected civil right. These bills mock the purpose of marriage and home that God intended. If passed, these laws give a man who marries another man, the same rights as a husband and wife. Churches will have to hire homosexuals. Homosexuals will be able to adopt any child. Schools will be forced to teach homosexuality as an alternate life style. Churches will not be allowed to reject homosexuals for ordination.

If churches reject homosexuals for ordination, the church may be denied tax exemption. The homosexual will then be able to sue for damages and effectively close the church by legally being awarded an amount greater than the assets of the church. The elimination of the evangelical stand against the sin of sodomy is the goal of many in Congress.

I know on this board it was a Christian using the term... but my reference is to the many 'non Christians' who have coined the term, and use it often...

A very sensitive subject today is the subject of homosexuality. There is a reason for its sensitivity, and needs to be addressed in the subject of healing. There has arisen a great anger amidst some against homosexuality, and the resultant resistance of those who are homosexual has generated an anger in them also. The resultant debate, attacks of both sides, has brought us to a time where laws, stigmatisms, and political correctness has brought about a silence of its true nature in the church toward the subject.

Certainly, we should not hate anyone. Lifestyles of many kinds of persons are objectionable. Christians are objectionable to many others, but they can talk against Christianity, we are told to be silent toward their contrary to Christianity lifestyles. We are not here to let sin run rampant, whether it be abortion, murder, or homosexuality. We cannot hate them that do such things, we are in the ‘healing’ business. Yet, we must study the subject enough to have an ‘answer for every man’, and when the subject comes up, we must be able to show how even the reprobate mind can be healed and cleansed.


Because the subject has become politically incorrect to mention, the talk of Sodom and Gomorrah is practically an unmentioned subject in the church anymore. Sodom and Gomorrah were known to be wicked places. The story about the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah shows how evil the corrupt minds of its citizens had become. They lied, deceived, cheated, and stole. The Bible shows that another great sin of these cities was homosexuality.

This issue of homosexuality has become a political "hot potato" in these last days. Laws are being written to give "special" (not simply "equal") rights to the homosexuals of today. Schools are teaching homosexuality as an "alternate lifestyle" and promoting it as a moral choice. The Bible condemns it, and Christians need to avoid the influence of media, government officials, and others who promote what the Bible calls wicked, as being good.

One of the names the Bible gives for it is ‘a reprobate mind’. Therefore it is a mental condition, one that comes, not by heredity, but by sins which bring God to let their minds be corrupted by this perversion.

Homosexuality is characterized by an unnatural sexual attraction for members of one's own sex. The term "homosexual" may apply to either sex, the term "lesbian" applies to women only. Active homosexuality causes some to solicit others to engage in homosexual perversion, and may bring some to commit homosexual rape. Active homosexuals are often repulsed by the thought of relations with the opposite sex. Some wear the clothes of the opposite sex (transvestism), and even change their names. Often the homosexual is fearful of involvement with the opposite sex, and turns to members of his or her own sex in order to receive gratification.

In this godless world, we have seen many turn to many different types of sexual perversion. In Romans 1:24-32, we see that the reason for God turning their minds over to such perversion, is the rejection of God. The main reason for homosexuality is the apostasy of mankind, and the sinful refusal to worship God, as Paul wrote in describing this sin, and its effects..

A strong program of spiritual development for the believer, and the genuine conversion of the unsaved are vitally important to the battle against this sin. We must love the sinner, but hate the sin. Then we must get the ones engaged in such sin to realize their need to be saved. They will not seek to remove the "reprobate mind" until they have come to know the need of spiritual conversion.

If Christian love is defined as tolerance of homosexuality as normal, godly, or acceptable, we are failing thereby to love them enough to lead them to salvation, forgiveness, a non-reprobate mind. True love is wanting salvation and healing from all that is unclean.
