The teachings of the church are that Christians won't live some amazing life, but will have a happier and more fulfilling one. The reason for being a Christian is that God saved us and we want eternity with Him and Heaven is more important than Earth so don't let the problems in life get you down.

That being said... Why do we always say "thank God because he changed my life and now I have 4 churches" or "thank God because he cured my mothers cancer". we even thank him for our success in sports and for winning oscars. Yet children all over the world die every day praying to the same God. I understand that things happen because of evil, but we can't give Him credit for healing our STD's when 8 year olds have flies on their face and maggots eating away their flesh. That would be implying that God is selective.

Another thing that opened my eyes is that we Say God has a plan for us. Yet I was reading an article(WARNING THIS IS A LITTLE GRAPHIC) where there's a man in Europe that takes 6 year olds from orphanages and cuts their limbs, blinds them, deafens them, and teaches them to become the perfect sex doll/slave and feeds them baby food. He ships them off to sick people for 20k and they last a lifetime. To me there is no plan in that so how can God have a plan for me winning a contest when others can't even live a life.

One of the things I love about hearing stories of believers around the world is that they aren't rich selected like those of us that post here. The poor that have had a million things go wrong from before they were born till they die. Yet they still testify that Jesus loves them. I can't give that testimony that speaks that God's love is so real that even this person wants that love more than anything else.

Dear IronicallyHuman. In Matthew 22: 35-40: Jesus tells us: " Love God with all our hearts, with all our souls, and with all our minds. The second is like it: Love our neighbour as ourselves." Then Jesus gives us this great fact:
" On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."
God is Love and God wants loving sons and daughters. We know that God has given us free will, we can choose to follow God`s Loving advice and earn Love and Blessings.
There are many who do not follow what our Heavenly Father wants us to do, and choose their own way of living. There is also God`s Eternal Law of:
" Sowing and Reaping," Galatians 6: 7-10: we read that " God will not be Mocked," we will reap what we sow. ( we cannot blame God for this, we had proper warning) God`s Law will also give us Blessings and fitting REWARDS.
That hideous report on the Madman and his horrific deeds, cannot be blamed on God, God is Love and God`s Love will have been with the suffering children, and that truth makes it bearable even to think about it.
We can only hope and pray that has made us all more thoughtful and loving to our fellow-beings. I say this with love. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.

Don't blame God for the evils and troubles in the world, but blame your own inaction for doing nothing about it.

I think a ministry of good works and love reminds the world that God isn't a jerk and He does care for you. Look at what He has having His servants do to keep the sun off your brow and the maggots out of your food. The problem is that we come from a "I scratch your back and you scratch mine." society and this type of thinking in incompatible with Christian living. You give them $20 because they need $20, not because you want the $20 back. If they take and take and still refuse the Lord, that isn't your problem, because as a Christian you understand what is yours isn't yours to begin with. Going broke isn't as important as serving the Lord.

First thing you do is read enough of the Gospel of John to get a real idea of what Jesus expects. Then come back and tell me.

The compassion that you feel for these, and the disdain that you have for those who don't is a reflection of our God.

I think a lax in witnessing from the church to the world is a good reason for persistent evils. Some if not most christian's don;t go out of their way to witness to the lost because of where the lost reside or what the lost have done. Some of us need to understand that the lost are not our enemy, but victims of the enemy. We have to endure the tension of identifying with the lost without being identical with them.

God is still in the process of establishing His kingdom on earth through me and you. The Bible says we were created for good works which He has prepared for us to do. God stires peoples hearts to do good works for His pleasure and purpose. If you feel troubled by the poor and suffering, it's likely God is stiring your heart towards helping. Many more people would have died of disease and starvation but if you do a bit of research you will find that God has been using some Misionaries, NGOs, Churches, Christians and many individuals to bless their lives. Still, more willing vessels like you and I are needed by God for good works. Please stop blaming God for human wickedness, He is doing His part, are we doing ours?
