My wife and myself went to see "Son of God," the movie produced by Roma Downey and Mark Burnett.

The script lacked in detail and jumped from one miracle to another too quickly. The acting was not so good in different parts and it was very shallow spiritually.

Also, the actor who played Jesus, well yeah good looking, but he looked more akin to a rock singer with a giant ego.

It doesn't come close to Jesus of Nazareth from a Scriptural interpretation, and can't touch The Passion, when it comes to spirituality.

FYI, I shared this at CAF Spirituality Forum as well.

Thought Jesus looked sorta insane in the trailor, had a stupid grin on his face while speaking apparently on the walk to Calvary. Also the words he said is no where recorded in the bible and artistically was dumb IMO. Your post is what I was sorta thinking might be so. Thanks for your post. I won't bother either.

We went to the matinee and got to see if for $10, so it wasn't too much money down the drain, but would've waited for it to come to TV for free.

The movie Noah, looks like it's going to be awesome.

There's also a movie coming about the true story of the boy who had a death experience and saw heaven. That looks real good.

Reading the Reviews it sounded more like it was a ReEdit of the History Channels' The Bible. with a few new things put in.

Sounds like it's a wait for DVD release.

The review would be right on and I thought it was weak like the History Channel movie "The Bible," when it came to the New Testament version.

That was also produced by Roma Downey and Mark Burnett.

What is it called? Is it based on the 'Heaven is Real' book?

I would have to say that, expecting any really deep theological exposition in a 3 hour movie would probably lead to disappointment, just as thinking the Bible can be told in a 5 hour mini-series would be. Also, it seems, based on the previews, that some creative license has taken place.
On the other hand, in a world where the Bible is a coffee-table decoration, and religion is all about my feelings, not the worship of God, maybe the miniseries and the movie aren't such a bad thing. Also, knowing that people today don't have the attention span to actually read the gospels or the Bible, again, this is more positive than negative.
I will support it just because I want positive re-enforcement that most media is not very good for the soul. Gotta say, though, it did very well for the first weekend-29.5 mil, second place. I hope they'll make more, better, deeper movies. I think that's the problem-Hollywood expects an immediate return on investment, and Christian movies don't often get it.

I would say that it's a deeper treatment of the Gospels than the History Channel series. I don't know how much of the NT The Bible had.

So which one would you rather people see.....
The Son Of God which at the very least, exposes thousands to Jesus Christ or Noah which depicts Him ( Noah ) as a man of God/gladiator?

I personally would rather people see a movie that may help guide them to the truth rather than one meant to solely entertain them.

Son of God could also lead them away from the real Jesus.

Yeah that's it, Heaven is Real.

That looks like it's going to be a good movie.

I had no idea they were making a movie from that. I read the book but never heard anything about a movie.

I never read the book, but heard of it.

I only learned today while watching the previews of coming attractions that they made a movie based on the book.

I'm still not totally down with Jesus looking like a stoner or surfer, and my wife isn't too keen on seeing the movie, so I doubt we'll see it for a while. I'll expect to hear the Beach Boys or Grateful Dead as a soundtrack! :p

But you don't know what's going to trip someone's trigger, Jim (remember Jesus exposing himself as the Bread of Life in John 6...)...Personally, I saw, in the last year, The Greatest Story Ever Told for the first time I've ever paid attention to it, and was turned off by the production. In fact, I kept thinking of that Thumbs up grinning Jesus. I had to watch the Passion to dilute it...
