"The root of all this trouble in the world is moral and spiritual. Economic and political methods are very important, but if the hearts of men were right and their attitude to each other in harmony with the spirit of Christ, they could find ways of solving economic and political problems. If this is true, the only hope of salvation for the world lies with the renewal of spiritual life and moral power in the lives of men. As Christians we believe that the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and that alone, if effectively applied, can save society. This surely constitutes an inescapable challenge to the Christian church. Her responsibility in this tragic hour is simply tremendous."
