I know a woman who buys all kinds of trial sizes to give to McDonalds house for families who have sick kids. This way if they forgot an item - the M House has some on hand for them.

Good ideas.
Some day [hopefully] i might have that available to spend.

Yes. They take them gladly. And this is a great time of year to clean out the old blankets, coats, etc. to take to your local mission. After Christmas a lot of missions are in great need.

This is the time of year when there is a lot of need among the poor.

Oh! And old ripped towel or blankets that are not really good enough to donate to the mission for people...please donate to your local shelter or no kill animal charity. We always need them for the animals.

I can't imagine handing someone a backpack and saying nothing more than "God bless"... I'd probably call 911 about a suspicious package.... lol

Brilliant though. Except for the food choices. Not knowing what a person normally eats (especially if it's basic staples and not the diet of the average American), I think sugary granola/cereal bars and cookies and mayo filled salads would be pretty hard on the stomach. I'd have to put more thought into the food aspect of it.

I'd probably hit up Aldi or something, get the food cheap but still give them some healthy options. The backpack can easily be picked up for 3 or 4 dollars at goodwill along with the other items, combined with 10 bucks of food and that probably would cost only 20 dollars.

Peanut butter does seem like a good idea. It does last long. If you can get it cheap - thats great. The price went up.
Most homeless people arent overly picky - a lot eat out of garbage cans - so i dont think they are overly concerned with the product. But that they have food.

I saw toilet paper and wondered what they do. I assume go into gas stations - but i dont know.

Anti-bacterial gel would be good. I think ppl ought to go out and collect - and that way more food could be added to the bags. The idea is nice - i like it - but it doesnt last for long.
Unfortunately.

I have heard of doing blanket drives - offering to get blankets for the homeless to stay warm. This is where collecting fur coats would be great. [warm suckers they are]
