The recent studies are showing that IBS, gluten intolerance and non celiac gluten sensitivity are actually a continuum/spectrum of gut disorders that can be triggered at any point in your life. It could be birth, illness, trauma or simply the genes (if you're celiac) turning on. They haven't figured out what causes the catalyst for this kind of gut disorder. IIRC, Youtube has the talk with Dr Fasano which was discussing this about a year ago.

It's just fascinating seeing what else they figure out.

I think trauma turned mine on. I really do think I got it from my mother and her mother. They have both had digestive problems mostly all their lives. My mother was a sickly child and into adulthood. Both had their gall bladders removed as well.

She keeps insisting she doesn't have Celiac but then will tell me of some symptoms that sound exactly like it. I am going to try to convince her to have her tested for it next time she has a check-up and when they do blood work. She would be better to test because she is not on a GF diet. I had already started on one from our conversations when I got tested so mine was inconclusive.

Have you ever run across anything written concerning Celiac and body alkalinity? In specific drinking fresh lemon juice each day. Or depletion's of potassium in Celiacs ?

Making A Foolproof Gluten Free Cake with Coconut Flour | Coconut Oil

Gluten-free cakes will never be as good as the wheat ones, right? WRONG! I myself am not gluten intolerant, but I do know what it’s like to have to give something up because it’s not healthy and try to find an alternative. I don’t like to settle for something less; for me taste is a very close second to healthy.

I'm just going to cheer as I now have a crock pot! YAY!!!!!!
:clap::clap::clap:

I know what it's like to be without one. I had my last one for 25 years and the cord was getting iffy, so we got rid of it but not after buying a new one. I went from the round version to the oval, I like it much better and you can fit a nice chicken in it for Shabbat.

Hope you get much great use from your new one!

Foreign Invaders: An Autoimmune Disease Journey through Monsanto's World of Genetically Modified Food

Whether or not you have a chronic illness or you are caught up in the autoimmune epidemic, genetically modified foods are a health risk. After being diagnosed with autoimmune disease and being disappointed by doctor after doctor, Dara Jones set off on a mission to recover her health with real food. In the footsteps of Robyn O’Brien, author of The Unhealthy Truth, Dara takes you on her journey through Monsanto’s world of gmo foods. After reading it, you’ll be empowered to take the reins of your own health and will never look at your grocery store shelves the same way.
In this personal account of her ongoing health recovery from autoimmune thyroid and Lyme disease, Foreign Invaders takes a practical look at the role of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in the healing process. How does a veteran of the business world and scientific layperson sort through the controversy and hysteria surrounding genetically modified foods? Are they helpful or harmful when trying to bring the immune system back into balance? Do they add or subtract from the body’s toxic burden? Are GMOs friend or foe to the chronically ill? Foreign invader or familiar and recognizable?

The stakes are high. There are currently 100 different autoimmune diseases identified including type-1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, Graves disease, Hashitomotos and lupus. 50 million Americans, or 1 in 5, have one of these diseases and 75 percent are women. Autoimmune disease is now one of the top 10 leading causes of death of women under the age of 65. It is responsible for more than $100 billion in direct health care costs annually in the US.

In this engaging, honest and informative work, the determined and pragmatic author presents her experience navigating the healthcare system, research into what constitutes a healing diet and conclusions about consuming genetically modified foods. Topics covered include autoimmune disease, inflammation, food intolerance and food allergies, the health risks and food safety issues of GMOs, the process of creating genetically engineered food, the impact of pesticides on the immune system and a brief discussion of sustainability, environmental and social justice issues.

If you’ve been diagnosed with a chronic illness, autoimmune disorder or Lyme Disease, grab a copy of this book today.

Oh, my! and here I have been trying to perfect my tarts using almond flour and marzipan!
This is not good also because one of my favorite GF flour mixes by Pamela's has almond flour in it.

I thought almonds were good for you? An with the Menorah an Aaron's rod and all.

I just bought a bottle of Amaretto too, just an hour ago! Think this is bad as well?

I do not agree with that article. I do not have all the sources to discuss as to why, but I think it is junk science. Almond and Hazelnut flour is a natural part of many European diets. Coconut flour is not always feasible (for allergy reasons, availability, sustainability) or affordability. Also, FWIW, the way that almond flour is processed (not at home), it removes a lot of the issues brought out in the article. Processing it at home without knowledge how to do so properly will create some of those issues in the article.

You really just have to do the best with what you have and eat *everything* in moderation.

Glad to hear you say that, I was wondering since it is a gf for health instead of have to like we do. Also they are paleo and I guess that's a bunch of nuts and seeds. I don't think our bodies are made for that any more and could be a major reason for many illnesses.

It's just so hard to eat anything anymore I wish sometimes we had a choice

To eat or not to eat, that is the question!

Exactly. It's like I was telling a friend today. Choose your hard. If doing GAPS/Paleo is going to have you in the floor crying every single meal time - do not do it. If getting gluten free freezer items that you do not react to, quality frozen veg/fruit and just doing what you can with what you have doesn't - choose your hard.

If it's a choice of taking up drinking or drinking a cup of coffee - choose what is least harmful.

If it's dishes every day for every meal or paper plates - choose your hard.

Not everyone is rich enough to get everything right all the time, afford it all, grow and harvest it all, ferment all the things, make it all from scratch, cook ahead, freeze it all in meal portions, can all the meat leftover from a whole cow/deer/lamb/goat and feed it to their kids without someone caring for the kids, cleaning up after and having the energy, finances and desire to do it all.

Food is one of the most divisive and elitist things when you think about it. Because it all comes down to status in the end, vs what is going in to feed you and not judging everyone for their choices, financial status and availability in their region. :sigh:

Yes, it can almost become a religion. I try to KIS, using things in their most perfect state and try to keep away from man made disasters but it isn't always easy and I can imagine how horribly hard it is for you and your family, I don't envy you but will pray for you!
