We had a member in here - a Catholic - who was a freemason.
He left the masons and converted Catholic and the two are not complimentary.
The further up you go the more you realize it just doesnt jive with Christianity.
Masonry has hsitorically been profoundly anti-Catholic. While lower orders seem positive (helping in the community), higher orders are filled with much paganism. Many church have allowed their members to be part of free masonry, but not the Catholic Church, and with good reason.
CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Masonry (Freemasonry)
I know they are anti-Catholic, but why they PRETEND to be the opposite on the surface ??

Freemasonry is happy to just sit back and let internal problems in the Catholic Church keep us down, to let modernism and liberalism and apathy weigh us down like chains
I think that is a bit of a stretchInternal problems in the Catholic Church... ??? Aren't they caused by the masons in the first place... ?

we are only human, we have to recognize that we have made a lot of mistakes
I think that Freemasonry is a negative force in this world and very unchristian
but I do not blame it for EVERYTHING,
lol to even blame it for MOST of our problems would be silly

Albion has already said that this needs to move to philosophy. But just so you know, the most recent Master of my lodge who just finished his year as Master is an active Roman Catholic. I've known a lot of Roman Catholic freemasons. The above just isn't true.
That same Past Master is also now a Grand Lodge officer.
That's also true in my lodge, and he has often referred to his Catholic faith. But please, folks, take this to the proper forum.
Rhamiel said:we are talking about a topic that is deeply connected to the Catholic Church
and we are talking about it in the Catholic subforum because we want to hear Catholic views on it
the subforum you want it moved to is just "Philosophy" it is not even a Christian part of this website like "Christian Philosophy and Ethics"
that does make sense because Freemasonry is not Christian but rather holds to the ideals of the Enlightenment
and I do not really care for your antidotal evidence, you know Catholics who are Freemasons, ok?
I know Anglicans guys who live with their girlfriends, so what?
the fact that people sometimes do immoral things is not news to anyone
Perhaps Albion feels he cannot properly address the issues here without violating the rules of OBOB while at the same time Catholics have no such limitations in arguing against Masonry.
Rhamiel said:if someone created a thread about why paganism is bad in OBOB would you want to have pagans arguing for idol worship?
The OP came here asking about why Catholics have issues with the Freemasons
as this is a Catholic subforum we are free to answer openly without having the teachings of our Faith contradicted by Freemasons
if Freemasons want to make their own thread in the Philosophy section and post a link on here, well I think that would be in keeping with the rules
but they should not be able to openly debate against the teachings of the Catholic Church in OBOB
if someone created a thread about why paganism is bad in OBOB would you want to have pagans arguing for idol worship?
so many Popes have spoken out against the Freemasons, it is should be clear to any Catholic that Freemasonry and the Christian Faith can not mix
I stated on here many times I know numerous Catholics that are masons. I don't judge men based on what religion they choose, and neither does Freemasonry.
It is a fact that Freemasonry is anti-Catholic.
They certainly would want to conceal its enmity and hatred
, that's the smart way to conquer. Only a foolish army would let the enemy knows
how it thinks.
That many Catholics go astray does not change the fact.
Some Catholics are even communists. That's part of the reasons why Our Lady
appeared so SAD in her apparitions, I believe.
Being a Catholic Freemason is anti-thetical and those folks need to repent and go to Confession...Albion has already said that this needs to move to philosophy.
