I think it's a good idea. Doesn't the Bible say that the power of sin is The Law, anyway?

What a great teaching tool, if you understand how to use it.

Do you understand 1 Corinthians 15:56? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.

and the strength of sin is the law;
not that the law of God is sinful, or encourages sin: it forbids it under the severest penalty; but was there no law there would be no sin, nor imputation of it; sin is a transgression of the law: moreover, the strength of sin, its evil nature, and all the dreadful aggravations of it, and sad consequences upon it, are discovered and made known by the law; and also the strength of it is drawn out by it, through the corruption of human nature; which is irritated and provoked the more to sin, through the law's prohibition of it; and this is not the fault of the law, but is owing to the vitiosity of nature; which the more it is forbidden anything, the more desirous it is of it; to which may be added, that sin is the more exceeding sinful, being committed against a known law, and that of the great lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy; whose legislative power and authority are slighted and trampled upon by it, which makes the transgression the more heinous; it is the law which binds sin upon a man's conscience, accuses him of it, pronounces him guilty, curses, condemns, and adjudges him to death for it.

The OP article link title is a lie.

New York City Satanists want to erect a Satanic monument in Oklahoma.

I wounder of the godless Freedom From Religion Foundation has the guts to stand against that agenda.

^_^

The way to counter that, if they haven't already, is put a Christian monument at World Trade Center area. It's in New York, home to that group of Satanists.

Yes, exactly the power Jesus defeated, yet we hand right back to Satan to (as you so appropriately used the word) ACCUSE the Brethren. Jesus died to take the punishment due us for transgression of the Law.... yet we want to raise monuments to that very "Ministry of Death". And you can be sure Satan just loves that.

"OK law forces state to accept satanic monument next to 10 commandments"

That wasn't Horsie's assertion; that was the title of the web page.

Not on the web page the link takes me to

Yes, it is in the web page you're looking at; you're just looking in the wrong place. That headline is in the <title> section of the web page's html code and shows up in the title bar of your browser (or in the name of the particular browser tab, depending on your browser). You can see what I'm talking about from this screenshot I just took:

attachment.php

I did not make the assertion you claim I made, and in fact, I didn't even type that sentence or copy & paste it there. I posted the page's actual url (as I typically do). However, when you include a url in a post, the forum software often (though not always) will grab the title from the web page and use it to replace the url text, so the link more readable.

It's a rather annoying feature, IMO, and one that I occasionally override by editing a post and replacing the title text with the url text that I wanted in the first place. Had I realized that the swap had been made this time, I probably would have made this edit, but I didn't notice it.

My only comment on the article was, "Filed under: Lulz"

Not very smart. Christians aren't the only ones who see Satan as the enemy. Now you have painted a target for al Qaeda and it fits right into their perception that the United States is the great Satan.

Here's a .pdf of the original legislation. The only language I see in it that could be construed as allowing, much less forcing the Leg to place other monuments is section 2 subsection D.
http://www.oklegislature.gov/cf_pdf/2009-10 FLR/hflr/HB1330 hflr.pdf
D. The placement of this monument shall not be construed to mean that the State of Oklahoma favors any particular religion or denomination thereof over others, but rather will be placed on the Capitol grounds where there are numerous other monuments.

What's up with the waving smiley? Do you think people need to see you wave so as to garner attention to yourself?
That's a bit ironic coming from the one who puts exclamation points in front of most your OP titles.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander. But, Satan symbolizes evil. So in this case it's a matter of what's evil, not what's good. Satan stands against human rights, you know.

Not according to Satanists.

I don't think Satanists and witches are the same people. And from what I've read, Satanists don't actually worship Satan...
Correct on both accounts. Satanism isn't my cup of tea. I find it's tenants too juvenile (same as I find some of the material the Satanic Bible was copied from).

What's good for the goose is good for the gander. But, Satan symbolizes evil. So in this case it's a matter of what's evil, not what's good. Satan stands against human rights, you know.

The Satan of Satanism isn't the devil. It's an idealized version of Satan as a rebel against authority.

I agree that it isn't very smart for the government to erect religious monuments.

Of any religion.

Including my own.

Most Satanists are atheists. The OK government in this case should give these Satanists exactly what they want in light of that. Nothing!
That way it is a monument that clearly represents their Satanic atheistic ideology. And in public. And when they ask, where's our Satanic monument? Someone can point to any spot beside those 10 commandments and say in all truth. "Right there!Atheism believes nothing religious exists and there you have it.Satanism is the antithesis of religion and thus of religious monuments too. So nothing represents having something to say about that." :)

It doesn't strike you as at all inappropriate for the government to deny a religion's monument because the politician disagrees with that particular religion?

Would you be singing a different tune if that politician were a Satanist and denied a monument to the 10 commandments while approving one to Satan?

I didn't reference the article title

FWIW, I don't usually link to articles on addictinginfo, because I find that site to be terribly misleading, despite my general agreement with their political views - they're just as bad as CNS, Breitbart, Glenn Beck or any of the right-wingers that I rail on. If it turns out that that page title is misleading and that OK law does not require the state to erect this other monument, I wouldn't be surprised in the least. I only posted this link because I found the situation to be amusing. If I were going to try to make an argument about the situation, I would've found a different source.

The point is that the title you offered in your link is not the same as the title at the link.

I don't know a lot about this particular group, but from some of their behavior in the past, I think it's possible that they're theistic Satanists. They seemed to believe that they could change the sexuality of Fred Phelps' dead mother by performing a "pink mass" over her grave, which...yeah. No. In all seriousness, if it's wrong for Fred Phelps to protest at military funerals (and I really believe that it is), someone disrespecting the memory of his deceased loved ones is also terrible.

I think that this article is lacking a description of the monument that they want to put up, which makes it hard to form an opinion. That said, given their actions in the past, I have a hard time believing that this is an expression of genuine religious devotion rather than just an attempt to get attention. If the government's going to allow one religious monument, though, then they shouldn't show partiality, as long as the symbolism is tasteful and not intended to cause offense.

These are joke satanists. The one article in this thread has them admitting as much when they admit their so called church is satirical and they're atheists.
Regardless of what the Supreme Court said about atheism, most atheists don't consider atheism to be a religion. And there is no 1st amendment religious right to identify satire as a religion!

What type monument do they propose that would represent a faith such as that? A reworked "Jack-in-the-Box" that has horns?
They're not Theistic Satanists who would then believe in a real Devil. They're not spiritual Satanists. They're self-admitted joke satanists and atheists.

I agree with the one who said agree to their monument by erecting nothing on the spot right beside the 10. Put a little chain fence around the spot and a plaque dead center that identifies their joke church as exactly what they said it is. Satire and atheistic.
That means they represent a joke about no thing they believe in but that others call Satan. The adversary, the antithesis, of the very God they also don't believe in.

Why should anyone take this bunch seriously when in an interview they tell everyone reading that they shouldn't take them seriously!

Their joke church is in New York City. I was there yesterday at the Met. At least it wasn't Wednesday! Traffic! Oh, my goodness!Huge mistake.

But here they are trying to force New York state...Oh no! OKLAHOMA, to erect a Satanic monument under pressure by a NYC joke satanist church.

Good luck with that fellas. They're not a religion. They're a punch line.

(This could be their monument
smileyslaughing_lol_100-107.gif
) Quite fitting really if you read their own words in that one article.

Is adult dialog without the waving display not something you're able to do?

This is not targeted at Mach per se, but yes, yes, a thousand times yes. I also fail to understand the use of all the smiley's so proliferate in many post here. They do nothing to either help or enhance an argument.

Well said, WB.

OK well Satan comes from Judaism and Christianity, so they're going to have to get their own evil guy. You can't go in and say the symbol of evil isn't the symbol of evil.
