Gal. 1: 6. I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7. Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9. As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

What did the Lord through that new Apostle - of the Gentiles; Paul, Rom. 11:13 - mean by "another gospel which is not another," this side of Romans 11:25-27's "until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in" prior to "and so all Israel shall be saved... when I shall take away their [Israel's] sin"?

What He meant was that to mix Israel's valid, "but now" on hold "when I shall take away their sins" gospel, with our equally valid "having forgiven you all trespasses" Col. 2:13, is to mix Israel's "righteousness which is of the Law," Rom. 10:5; Luke 1:5,6, Acts 3: 19-23 with our "But now, the righteousness of God without the Law is made manifest," Rom. 3:21, "even the righteousness which is of faith," Rom. 9:30.

That to mix those two - into one - is to arrive at "another gospel: which is not another." One that is neither Israel's future gospel under the Law, nor our present gospel under Grace.

Israel's future gospel under the Law:

Isaiah 2: 1. The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. 2. And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. 3. And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob;and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

Our present gospel under Grace:

Gal. 3: 1. O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? 2. This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 3. Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

Mix Israel's "righteousness which is of the Law" Gospel, EVEN NOW on hold "til the fulness of the Gentile's... righteousness of God WITHOUT the Law" Gospel "be come in" and you end up with "another gospel; which is not another" at all!

Good post!!!

Those Galatians were saved under Paul's preaching of "the gospel of the GRACE of God". The Judaizers that followed Paul were trying to get them back under that "other Gospel" (the Law). He gave them a stern warning.

Dispy: Assuming these Judaizers came from Jerusalem do you think that the leaders of the Jerusalem church sent them?

We are not told, but my introduction to the letter to the Galatians, in my KJV of the Bible, states they were missionaries from Palistine.

You can find the answer to that question in Acts 15, where we read "Since we have heard that some who went out from us have troubled you with words, unsettling your souls, saying, "You must be circumcised and keep the law"--to whom we gave no such commandment--" (Acts 15:24)

This was not specifically about the churches of Galatia, but was about the same subject. The leaders of the church in Jerusalem made it very plain that these false teachers had not been sent by themselves. They did not say "certain men whim we sent," they said, "certain men who went out from us" and they specifically said "to whom we gave no such commandment."

What passages are you basing said assertion on?

There is no passage that says it clearly. It is inferred from historical context.

Paul contrasts the Abrahamic covenant and the Sinai covenant in Galatians 3 and 4, which leads me to suspect that the 'other gospel' Paul is talking about in Galatians is somehow related to participation in a covenant.

The only way to be a participant in the Sinai covenant in Paul's day was conversion to Judaism. This covenant participation was believed to grant one life in the World to Come.

According to Paul, Gentiles were already granted life in the World to Come by Jesus atonement, a fulfillment of the promise of the Abrahamic covenant that the nations (Gentiles) would be blessed. Gentiles conversion to Judaism would bestown no benefit that Gentiles didn't already have and would put additional restrictions on their lives.

Judaism IS the Law: Rom. 2:17-20; Gal. 1:13,14; Philip. 3:3-6.

Not to mention, all those instances within Galatians wherein Paul makes reference to the Law as being the subject of the very issue he is addressing adding the works of the law for righteousness which has been done away by the faith of Christ - by His faithfulness to that righteousness which the law had demanded - even unto death - "the faith of the Son of God; Who loved me and gave Himself for me."

How do you reconcile this with the fact that Messiah sent His twelve Jewish apostles to the Gentiles, and commanded the 12 to teach the Gentiles everything He taught them to observe?

Per Acts 7 and Acts 13 in light of Matthew 12, that Gentile salvation is on hold Romans 1-3, 9-11, Galatians 2.

In light of these passages, Romans 1's "to the Jew first" is a historical point, not a present instruction. And that is so until the truth of Romans 11:25 "be come in." Only AFTER that will said to "the Jew first" and through "their fullness" FIRST will that salvation to and among the Gentiles - through Israel's RISE begin to come into its own.

As a summary, read Romans 15: 8-12. Stop there, bring in Romans 11:25-27, and then read Romans 15: 13-21.

Thanks...
