Have you heard of Emergence Christianity?

I am reading a book that I got at the library called, "Emergence Christianity" by Phyllis Tickle. The book is about how Christianity is changing in the 21st Century.

I'm not sure if I should accept this change or run the other way. I have seen for a while that Christianity has been making a shift but not fully understanding it or why.

Also I have heard there is such a thing as Emergence Judaism and Emergence Islam. Can anyone share with me on this issue also?

Also what is Contempary Christianity vs Traditional Christianity? What is the difference between the two?

There are a LOT of people who believe the emergent church is the apostate church.

It IS important to be culturally relevant, but we shouldn't compromise our values to fill seats. Otherwise we will love them straight into hell.

I equate "contemporary" Christianity with "emergent" Christianity as described by Mazock.

I equate "traditional" Christianity with mainline-conservative Christianity.

Visionary, hello my friend. Look up Emergent Judaism. And I am not sure if there is an Emergent Messianic Judaism. You may want to look that up also when you get a chance.

Never said that Judaism is also looking into it. Unity among people coming from different religious backgrounds and diversity in the expression or corporate worship are strong focuses of the emergent church movement. Being ecumenical means that compromise is taking place from the original stance. Public sway is the dictator.

Usually when there is compromise, that is usually a sign that later it may not work and the group will not stick together. For me personally don't agree with the Emergent Christianity concept. Because in my thinking there is too much of the world creeping in.

And many groups will use bribery to get the people just to come to their church, congregation or group. Now I am not just singling out MJs, I am pointing out this among the Christians and any other religious organizations.

Hello,

I don't think that the music necessarily indicates anything other than the congregation preferring contemporary music rather than traditional hymns.

In the church where I was ordained the Pastor changed the music in one of two services and younger folks liked that service better and older folks liked the more traditional English hymns. I really enjoy Christian Rock. But I also like the old hymns and even gregorian chants.

I bet there are many MJ services with even more traditional music and dance. I'd love to participate but we don't have any MJ gatherings in my area.
