There is a lot of games in development that are available either as alpha or beta versions (alpha means that it's in the earlies stages of development, beta is near release).

Here's one that's reached v.0.6.00, alpha:

Welcome to Species: Artificial Life, Real Evolution | Species: Artificial Life, Real Evolution

It's an evolution simulation, which lets you observe this version of evolution (it's not an exact copy of the natural one, of course) and the struggle for survival ;)

Read about it and try it out, I've managed (without the artificial help from the rovers) to produce about 30-35 distinct species. Then they either died out, or the game crashed.

I've looked for simulators sporadically and I like this one the best, since it gives the graphical representation in 3D and allows for direct observation, and manipulation, of the population. Which is limited in most I've found.

Of course, it has a lot of bugs and problems, but that'll probably be sorted out in time (one never knows, they might run into problems they can't conquer).
