• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I also got and stay sober in AA. I started in AA long before I ever heard of Celebrate Recovery. I've long believed the Lord wants me to stay in AA. I've had many opportunities to share my faith with individuals I've met throughout the past 24 years.

I will continue to participate in AA. However, I just learned that there is a Celebrate Recovery meeting here in the town I live in. I am interested in checking them out.

God bless.

I won't knock what AA has done for you guys, and I wouldn't tell you to leave AA..my issue with AA is that it creates a lot of pagans. A person might get healing because of the grace of God, but it isn't doing them much good if they don't know Jesus. On the other hand Celebrate Recovery is a Christ centered recovery program and everything is based around surrendering yourself to His care and control.

If people in AA are becoming pagans, I haven't seen it. I've met many believers like me in AA. We believe God doesn't want us in a "Holy Huddle" recovery program where everyone is already saved. We believe God wants us to be light and salt in a group of people struggling to find God in their lives.

AA was founded by believers. There are Bible quotes through the AA Big Book, as well as the AA 12 Step book. The reason the original Steps were changed from using the word God, alone, was to open AA to people of all faiths, or atheists.

Why would you deny those searching for God in their lives the opportunity to experience His love through you? I can't comprehend that. So what if you meet pagans? Whenever I attend a meeting, I pray for God to give me love for the people I meet. I also pray for Him to speak through me as I share my experience, strength and hope during the sharing part of the meeting.

I wouldn't take anything away from what you're doing at AA. I have disagreements with the doctrine but actually the local CR group and the AA group in my town are working together. I hope the CR group in your area is a help to you. God bless.

You obviously don't know much about AA. If you did, you would know that AA does NOT have a doctrine. It's not a church, or religious group. It's a 12 Step recovery program. It's not meant to be religious.

If I want a doctrine, I go to church. If I want to help a struggling alcoholic get sober and find God, I go to AA.

Where did you get the idea that AA has a doctrine? I don't understand what you disagree with.

If, and when, I attend Celebrate Recovery, it's not to get help. I don't need anything from the people there. I hope to attend there to be a blessing to people who struggle with alcoholism.

That's okay..I'm not here to debate against AA..I just wanted to share the book that Celebrate Recovery is based off of. It's really a good read for any Christian even if you have no intention of joining the program. I will pray for your ministry. God bless.

Nothing in any 12-Step program promotes paganism, nor causes it. There are pagans who attend, however I would venture to say there are many pagans in Churches today as well (many only go for the social or financial connections :) ) The spiritual foundations of neither are to blame for the actions of some members. I must admit that I've noticed that some people who work the steps in AA/NA via the "big book" or "basic text" seem to be more focused on kindness to each other.

Whereas some folks I've worked steps with in CR are still making fun of people just like they did before, and exhibiting less "Christlike" behavior.

Jesus said we should do unto others as we would have them do unto us, not do evil unto others before they do evil unto us.
