Well, put it this way... I don't like their selling God for dollars practice. It's almost like what my denomination used to do centuries ago. Every second time God is mentioned ask for money. Want your sins to be forgiven give us money. God will show you he loves you by making you rich. Then sell a whole bunch of merchandise as well that I sincerely doubt all goes to the poor. It's almost like the temple markets Jesus made a stand against.

Before all the reflex ''you're judgemental blah blah...." responses read it for yourself. It is an *objective* information resource offensive to only Charismaniacs (if it feels good it must be from God, don't question the source of those feelings) NOT truth-seekers.

Before anyone sings a supposedly Christian song, test the lyrics if it doesn't comes against the Truth....

....If it does, don't sing it even if everyone does in the church even if it angers the persons beside you or the pastor. We should rather anger people than God!

Many Christian songs today doesn't stand the test of Truth they are self-centered in most cases as if God is supposed to be our divine servant, to answer all our wishes and to make us happy rather than the other way around. It disturbs me to see that while God may indeed do those things, why keep repeating it over and over in songs....

...Imagine you're an owner of a business and you have people who works for you. Imagine how would you feel if all of your workers sing weekly or daily to give them their salary, knowing you give them every fortnights anyways. Sounds annoying doesn't it?? I'll probably ask them to stop doing it or find another employer to annoy.

Applies also to songs:

Matthew 6:7-8
And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

Not agreeing with a churches teaching doesn't make it a cult. I don't agree with Catholic teaching, but I don't for a second think they're a cult.

For the record, a cult church or group is typified by a belief that their (and only their) teaching is right, by pressure for members to leave their family to live with other church memebers and pressure to exclude those who don't belong to the church or not associate with non members.. Hillsong fails all these tests ( as opposed to say Jehovas Witnesses or Scientologists)

As for the blog, objective isn't a word I'd use to describe an anonymous blog that posts Boy George videos as editorial comment, spends pages talking about a book that Brian Houston retracted years ago, and appears to have some seriously judgemental, not to mention mysoginistic members (one of whom appears to be the author, though we don't know because he's anonymous).

And no, I don't particularly like Brian's teaching either.....

some ones a little touchy lol

truth be told imo they have some wonderful songs - very inspiring
and they have many songs that are quite bland and same same .

a cult ? no i dont think so

and what is the " new apostolic reformation " someone mentioned .
i better go read that church watch article i guess .

and @ forever trying ..sadly said denomination has only changed tactics in the west. in the Philippines ( from 1st hand experience) you don't get help from that group nor blessing without handing over the customary offering of money $$ first. its a big world and what a denomination in one nation does can differ vastly from what it does in another nation .

Well I don't know what happens in the Philippines Michael. Only in Western/European and African nations. However if what you said is true than that's wrong as well. But there's no point in going all around the world and fact is two wrongs don't make a right. Whether it be the Catholic Church in the Philippines or Hillsong in Sydney. Using Bible teachings as a direct source of raising revenue (particularly excessive) is directly contrary to what Jesus and then his disciples wanted. Hence why for a lot of Christian history we were considered the religion for the poor and slaves.

No,
Hillsong is not a 'cult'.
I am in more of a position to say than most of you guys as i was part of the church for five years.

but there were some misguided principles, particularly pertaining to finances, which was one of the main reasons why i decided to leave Hillsong.

It is still a good church though.. just remember that no church is perfect.
like the one I go to now is almost perfect, except that it has alot of church politics.. but i'd prefer that over issues regarding money.

i dont think it is a cult either - not even close
but it "appears" on the surface to be starting a walk out onto thinner ice .

I heard so many bad things about them, but I love their worship.
Hillsong is not a cult. Everytime I have attended Hillsong I have heard dodgy teaching. That might be in the pre-offertry pep talk or the sermon or by counsellors who talk to people who go forward for prayer or to the welcome room. I have also heard biblically accurate teaching as well. I would not like to ever be a member of a church like hillsong because I think it is way too easy to get lost in the crowd and there does seem to be a emphasis on prosperity doctrine which I do not agree with. Having said that they do some really good work as well.
For Hillsong Music well it is like any other Christian music you need to determine if it is accurate or not. There are hymns which are considered great hymns that are just as bad as some hillsong music while there are some great songs as well.

I have never attended a church that has not preached something that is biblically wrong. I don't believe a church exists that has not had a biblically incorrect sermon given. That is worth remembering. Hillsong is easy to bash because it is the tall poppy and many churches have lost large amounts of youth who have changed to Hillsong. A friend who lost half his youth group to Hillsong is one of the biggest defenders of Hillsong I know. I think he has the right attitude. While losing all those kids did make things difficult for him he rejoices that they are still going to church and learning God's word and will for their lives.

having read four articles from that website I have seen so many false statements made. I have never seen a single article that condemns Joel Osteen actually correctly quote what Osteen preaches. Every single pastor teaches something that is biblically incorrect. The speakers listed are no different. That does not automatically make them false teachers. Likewise with Joyce Meyer the only articles that I have read that condemn her as a false teacher are factually incorrect and make assumptions. If that site can't get basic simple information right then what hope can we have that the other claims are correct?

Its far easier than trying to explain the convoluted nature of the new apostolic reformation movement

Or if you wish you can do as many christians do, stick your head back in the sand and ignore this momumental threat within mainstream christianity

I'm a pagan so its neither here or nor there for me what happens to christianity

well if your a "pagan " its not possible for you to comprehend the things of the Spirit . leaving you to believe anything negative you choose to believe .And God is never threatened .. all these things he has already said will come to pass "they shall gather together teacher unto their own ears" -
and if you really are a pagan .. then repent and be saved .

people make the error of thinking belief is based on evidence - but i choose to disbelieve that ... So it cannot be so .
