I have to say my wife and I are currently underwhelmed by Texas. We moved here last year and it seems to be turning into a purple state, overrun with illegals and liberals who are fleeing their dying blue states and then implementing the same dumb policies here. The economy is good but unfortunately that means that everyone and their mother is flocking here looking for work, making it impossible to be considered for anything decent. I miss the days of living in Oklahoma and Tennessee. Those states were actually more conservative and finding work was never a problem.

I had always been told Texas was the great Republican area. I think in the next decade it will be blue and the Democrats will then never loose another election. It's sad how soft they're gotten here in regards to immigration and traditional values.

I always hear the chant to throw the bums out. And then I vote against the bums and they still get elected?

That's because the bums are electing them. Why work and think for yourself when you can have someone else pay your bills and tell you what to do?

what I don't like is when people elect Democrats but then complain about their taxes going up, affirmative action, immigration, gay marriage, abortion, entitlement programs, etc. yet continue to elect the very people who cause the issues they complain about.

and yeah there are constituents like this...they claim to support Democrats yet they don't even realize what they're supporting and they're not interested in learning about it.

It's so ridiculous. Here in Texas half of the license plates are from states like California, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Jersey, and New Mexico. The very people who claim that tax cuts and reduced spending are bad are the same ones flooding to red states because those policies are implemented. They burn their own states to the ground and then move to ours and vote for the same morons all over again. It's asinine.

I'm sure that mentioning Clinton isn't the ideal thing in this sort of thread but still - under the Clinton years (which I think were with help from the Republicans however), our spending was much much less than it is now. We survived. It's unnerving to see Democratic voters justifying Obama's spending yet rake Bush over the coals for "the same thing." They say "well that was for wars..." Did not Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and John Kerry support the war in Iraq?

Clinton was able to be pushed to the center on some issues, something Obama refuses to do on any issue. The spending started under Bush and Obama has only doubled it. Both parties are to blame for allowing it to spiral out of control.

true, I also don't like it when people who don't like Obama's spending are OK with Bush's when the latter's spending is not indicative of the fiscal conservatism espoused by the Republican Party.

I hope people don't misconstrue this as a Democrat-supporting post because it is SO NOT. I absolutely HATE the Democratic Party today!

No, the spending issue is a truly bi-partisan one, I'm sad to say.

I hearken to something David Axelrod admitted here recently:
“Part of being president is there’s so much underneath you because the government is so vast,” he added. “You go through these [controversies] all because of this stuff that is impossible to know if you’re the president or working in the White House, and yet you’re responsible for it and it’s a difficult situation.”

He effectively admitted the government is just to big ("vast") - which of course is the Tea Party's, the conservative's, and some Republican's main point. We want smaller government.

Unfortunately, a huge ("vast") government is just to corrupting - it corrupts regardless what letter one boasts beside their name. Point being that in one respect, it's irrelevant for whom we vote these days because whomever it is will, in the shadow of such a corrupting influence inevitably be corrupted by its allure as well.

We need to curtail the size and growth of this abominable monster - and soon.

There seems to be as much interest in this thread, as there is in a race between two rocks in a tray of mud. I also notice that I'm the only acknowledged Republican to post here in over two years. In the last election, I supported Romney financially, but voted for Gary Johnson (Libertarian).

I live in Oregon, by the way, as you can see, in a solid Democrat district. I don't know what to make of politics in this country. God controls who gets elected, and He seems to have been choosing Democats lately. Either He simply wants to judge America, or the Republicans have some serious problems relating to Him. Whoever's in power, He runs the place.

All the best.

If memory serves me correcly, the reason for inactivity here is that a certain member identified himself as a Republican but was a died in the wool liberal. His participation mucked things up a bit so the discussion was moved to the Social Conservatives Safehouse

That, and since the Republican party has pretty much abdicated their role to one of acquiescent quislings to things and people liberal, we prefer to identify ourselves on the basis of our conservative values rather than faux political expedients. ;)

Then there are those of us who use to identify as Republican who do not do so any more. They have been moving to the left at an increasingly rapid pace anymore.

Yep. Next year, in the federal election, I'm voting libertarian.

Rick Larsen is a died in the wool moonbat, but I have a good state representative.

Why? The rest afraid to be identified as Republicans? Or just "olde"? ^_^
There was a liberal member here who self identified as a Republican and created discord in what was supposed to be a safehouse. So we migrated to the Social Conservative safehouse to exclude him
