Yeah, that's the guy who falsely predicted the rapture as occurring in 1984, 1988 and 1989 and who now has his own false prophecy broadcast show.

No. I wouldn't say I follow him. I see his face pop up every now and again on youtube. What's surprising and shocking is there are actually people who do follow him.

Nope...not for a long time! I did follow him back in the late 80's as a young immature Christian, who was indoctrinated in the dispensational approach to Christianity.

Been a long time since then...no way this guy is on point.

Hi, Hal Lindsey in my opinion has very sound doctrine. He does come from the literal interpretation of the scripture . He is also a pre-tribulationist . Many people will disagree on this forum because they have a different end times perspective .

His main focus of his ministry seems to be on world events coming from a biblical perspective . I personally like his teaching. As for predicting the rapture. I haven't heard him say anyExact dates before.

His book in the 70's" the great late planet earth" was very timely for the generation in which we live in today.

Isn't he the guy that said 40 years after 1948 the second coming would take place? The same guy that said if it didn't happen he'd be a "bum" in the Christian community?

I don't think it's the same guy, because I think he believes a biblical generation lasts 70-80 years..

I don't think it was really a question...I think it was more a statement.

Yes, Hal Lindsey is a false prophet and a bum.

I don't have the book in front of me, but I'm pretty sure he stated it in The Late Great Planet Earth.

Do you follow him or not? Just wondering, not sure if this is the right place to ask.

Never.

He's one of the worst things to happen to Christianity in the 20th century IMO.

The only "sound" thing of Lindsey is his voice...when it comes to eschatology Lindsey is found wanting...PERIOD.

A prominent "newspaper prophet" that is wrong so much because he has "futurized" things that have already occurred.

Hal Lindsey, Tim Lahaye, and Jack Van Impe...are the face of errant futurism and they are dispensational to boot.

He's not any better than any other end of world prophet who predicts the end and then excuses why he was wrong. He ignores scripture that says no man will know the day or time when Christ will return, and he launches all his fear mongering prophetic warnings around Israel.

And he's very rich for his trouble.Weird! And very rich!

Lindsay is like that old man, Camping, who bought billboards around the nation years ago so as to predict the end of the world in May and then in October. We're all still here and he was stricken with a stroke. So what's that tell you about false prophets?

God is not mocked!

Last year I heard Dr. Brent Walters of San Jose St., Religion, and weekly host of 'Godtalk' at a SF am station explain that in the 80s he wished to debate Lindsey and the pres of the major Christian TV station Trinity about the rapture. Trinity was just getting launched. But the latter would not. The reason not was that a popular rapture was the $ deal breaker for Trinity. Trinity could not afford to have Lindsey's version of the rapture diminished. This was not a debate about timing of such, but Walters says it does not have all the features claimed by Lindsey, and essentially means "a familiar greeting." This explains why the rapture as such has the mass-appeal that it does.

Walters may have this explanation archived at KGO 810 San Fran or related sites.

The guy's a grifter who has been wrong in 100% of his "predictions". He has, or should have, zero credibility.

Hi, Hal Lindsey in my opinion has very sound doctrine. He does come from the literal interpretation of the scripture.
We talking about the same guy? Old "China's Building A Road To Move Their 200 Million Cavalry To Israel" Hal? The guy whose predictions (and he's made a bunch of them) fail 100% of the time? The old boy who has to "spiritualize" and/or explain away just about every literal meaning of Scripture in order to get his stupid hand-wrought doctrine to "work"? ("Yeah, Hal, 'splain to us again how sacrifice hasn't really ceased yet, how Daniel's 70th week really meant the 300th-somethingth week, or how when John says "the time is at hand" he really means "in a couple thousand years give or take" just for starters.) That the guy we're talking about? Sound doctrine? Literal interpretation? Really?

Many people will disagree on this forum because they have a different end times perspective .
I disagree with him because he's infallibly wrong. If he declared that the sun rises in the east I'd have to get up early just to verify that it still did.

His book in the 70's" the great late planet earth" was very timely for the generation in which we live in today.
Nemmind that he assumed that 1988 was the swan song for "The Late Great Planet Earth".

To bibletruth:
literal interpretation does not follow how the NT uses the OT
LIndsey moved on to the 70 year generation after the great dissappointmetn of being wrong about 40 years. This has been happning in church history for about 200 years. BEfore that people would have thought you werre irrational for pretending to set an end date; today you can be very popular. Thanks, futurism.

The literal interpretation does follow throughout the entire bible. It says what is means and means what it says.Psalm 119:105 " thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path " . The truth of scripture is interwoven between the old and the new testaments . 2 Tim 3;16" All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness" .People may spiritualize the bible can make it mean anything they want it to mean , however they are missing the truth of the scripture . God always says what He means ;scripture interprets the scripture!

The guy's a grifter who has been wrong in 100% of his "predictions". He has, or should have, zero credibility.

This is a perfect summation of him, and every single other person like him for that matter.

Wrong.

The bible is written in many different forms of literature, and thus is meant to be interpreted as such. For example there is poetry, psalms, gospels and apocalyptic among others. Apocalyptic is a Jewish way of writing something that's loaded with symbolism—thus things like that are written as such are not meant to be taken literally.

We need to have the proper lens through which Scripture is to be interpreted, namely the Tradition from which Scripture was born.
