Genesis chapter 4 is the brief story of Cain and Abel, the offpsring of Adam and Eve. In the story, Cain kills Abel, and fears being banished by God because he is afraid that someone will kill him. Here's the conundrum...

Who was he afraid of, since the only people alive at the time, according to creation, were Adam, Eve, Cain and the now deceased Abel? If he was banished and sent out away from his parents, who was around to kill him? The Bible doesn't say.

The second conundrum is the fact that Cain moves to the land of Nod, and it is there that he marrries a woman (not Eve) and has a son named Enoch. Where did she come from, if Eve was the only female on earth at that time? Again, the Bible doesn't say.

This is why I, and so many others, do not take Genesis (or a lot of the rest of the Bible) literally. There are too many unanswered questions, contradictons, discrepanices and things that just don't add up.

However, let's take a quick step back for a moment and look at Genesis chapter 1, verses 26-31. God creates man and woman, not as singular individuals, but as multitudes, and instructs them to procreate. Thus ended "day 6."

God rests on "day 7."

The Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve aren't created until chapter 2, AFTER "day 7." It would seem that Adam and Eve were created specifically for the Garden of Eden, but were not the first humans. Some argue that chapter 2 is a recount of chapter 1, but that is subject to personal opinion.

If my theory is correct, then the multitudes were created first, and populated the world, and THEN Adam and Eve were created for the Garden, and their offspring of Cain and Abel were born. That would explain who Cain feared if he was banished, and it would explain why he was able to marry a woman and have Enoch. This scenario seems far more logical (and you don't have to have a lot of far stretched theories and spin jobs, to make it work).

Straight out of the Bible, Genesis chapters 1, 2 and 4.

there were people alive...theologically they are pre-adamites and not created after the image of God. But people none the less.

When you say this, are you trying to give support to the Old Earth Creationist views? Are you referring to non-homo sapiens animals belonging to the homo genus?

does that matter? The genesis account has no problems with an old earth what with 'yowm' meaning age and not day.

Cain married one of his sisters. Adam and Eve had 25 children - 16 boys and 9 girls. We are all the product of incest.

you would also wonder how cain knew that his sacrifice wasn't acceptable to god, as if god was standing there showing dissaproval. i think it's just that the writer didn't think about where all these other people came from.
the biblical scenario for the origin of life, goes against the genetic evidence that humans have been around for about 60,000 years, and started out as about 10,000 individuals, and other lifeforms go back through the geologic ages.

People have been around for about 300,000 years. Geneticist have confirmed that the Dog, no matter what breed or geographic location it is found, has the Grey Wolf for an ancestor. Morover, and what stunned the anthropologist, it was domesticated some 150,000 years ago. This points to at least primitive civilization being present a hundred thousand years earlier than previously thought.

where do you get the 300,000 years ago? i read that genetic research has a time of 60-150,000 years. i don't know how accurate are the measurements for dating rocks, so i am doubtful about dates for humans going back over a million years. can you date the rock that a fossil is in? i know they got a carbon date of 26,000 years for nearndethals, from one batch of bones.

The dating of rocks has improved with the ability to use various isotopes.

i dont accept the standard evolutionary scenario. i don't accept that mutations give rise to new species. various animals turn up in the fossil record fully formed. but i dont go along with yec ideas either.
the origins is a mystery, which can only be discovered by examining the evidence, as the bible dosn't have the answers.

Nope, sorry. This is one of those far fetched, spin jobs to try and make it work.

The Bible talks about Adam and Eve having another son, Seth, to replace Abel. It then talks about the descendants of Adam, and goes on to say that Adam and Eve had other children. All of this comes AFTER Cain has been banished. You can find it in Genesis chapter 5.

The Bible does NOT tell us how many total children that Adam and Eve had, nor does it tell us their gender. If you believe otherwise, cite your sources.

Cool.

Playing around in the OT tends to make me have trouble in the NT. Eliminate it and the Gospel comes to life, for me anyways. If it didn't work for the Jews, it is only going to negate truth from Christ, IMO.

You can't just toss out the OT. It is the foundation of both Judaism and Christianity. Furthermore, Jesus tells us to keep the Law and the Prophets (the categories of books in the OT).

Yes, there are glaring contradictions between the OT and the NT. If you follow both, you'll run into problems. This is what happens when several different people write about how we should live, according to their understanding of God and Jesus. The same thing happens in this day and age. The different denominations have different views and opinions, and all of them believe they are based on the Bible in some form or fashion.

The Christian religion is HIGHLY subjective to interpretation.

I can if I believe the demiurge concept. Marcion and Theudas seemed to have it right before men in the 2nd century decided to create it their way.

Then why spend time on a Christian forum? You should be frequenting a Gnostic forum.
