Do you think Jesus would carry a gun? If he did, would you still call him the Prince of Peace?

Luke 22:35-38
Scripture Must Be Fulfilled in Jesus
And he said to them, “When I sent you out with no moneybag or knapsack or sandals, did you lack anything?” They said, “Nothing.” He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one. For I tell you that this Scripture must be fulfilled in me: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors. ’ For what is written about me has its fulfillment.” And they said, “Look, Lord, here are two swords.” And he said to them, “It is enough.”

Matthew 10:34-39
Not Peace, but a Sword
“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter- in- law against her mother- in- law. And a person's enemies will be those of his own household. Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

Hmm Jesus used a whip to chastize the people in the temple making it a marketplace .

But discouraged peter from using a "sword" because those who live by it .. die by it.

The gospel figure that was "soldier friendly" or at least offered instructions was John the Baptizer who advised those who came to him

Then some soldiers asked him, “And what should we do?” He replied, “Don’t extort money and don’t accuse people falsely—be content with your pay.”

No, I don't believe Christ would have carried a gun.

How would his story have changed if he had one of his sword-weilding disciples kill a roadside robber "in self defense"? I believe that would confuse the good news Christ came to bring.

It seems to me that when he instructed people to take up their sword, he was speaking symbolically of the Scriptures. Though when he told St. Peter those who live by the sword die by the sword, he was addressing the situation at hand and thus an actual sword. Overall, I believe Christ chose nonviolence at every juncture and so would not carry a gun (or sword, spear, knife, now), nor would he advocate his followers to do so.

If Jesus lived in Israel today, he would do 3 years national service in the IDF and he would have a semi automatic in his arm's the whole time, even carry a semi automatic home with him every night. He would also be a reserve soldier who would have arms and could be called up to war at any time.

The only way out of that would be to use his religious conviction to not go into National Service. Some religious Jew's use that and get away with it while the rest of the country defends them. Not sure Jesus would be like them. He had no problem telling his Disciples to arm themselves.

Jesus said to have them bring the swords to fulfill a prophecy .

when Peter actually used it Jesus healed the guys ear and rebuked Peter with simple cause and effect logic . if you live by the sword . you'll die of it .

I have to wonder how that would go down in Israel today where they are surrounded by enemies? If Israel believed what Jesus said and had a policy of "Live by the gun, die by the gun" so Israel disarms, every Jew would be run into the sea by the surrounding Arab Nations...

According to bible prophecy .. no nation will disarm until God comes to rule them . so what you're saying of nations governing does not apply to individual citizens . if people seriously need to carry guns to stay alive then it's obviously not something God brought about .. is it?

If Jesus were a Scotsman then no he would not carry a gun. Because carrying a gun is illegal in Scotland.

We had a shooting here in 1996 when a squirrel-wit shot many young children in a school. After that guns were banned and there have been no more fatal shootings (obviously).

Having said that I wouldn't want to comment on the situation in America.

Personally my image of Jesus is not like Charles Bronson from Death wish.

We have the same testimony here in Australia. The last person that went on a shooting spree was in 1996. we banned guns and we have not had a similar incident since.
I too wont comment on America, someone might shoot me, lol. I think the solution is kinda obvious tho America ;)

The 2nd amendment was not put there to provide access to guns for hunters, but as a deterrant to an overeaching government.

you are correct, the whole issue for guns is that the public can defend itself against a government that has gone rogue, and begins gathering up citzens that it considers terrorist without trial or hearings, when a government begins torturing its enemies, and its own people start getting rounded up as enemies as if there were no constitution at all

Americans will be glad we the people had some fire power to fight back, and take back the republic for which it stands
