Just a lazy googling of abc news abortion march...

http://abcnews.go.com/US/t/story/abortion-opponents-march-washington-18310474

March For Life News, Photos and Videos - ABC News

The latter is a whole page of related stories, abc though the issue newsworthy enough to dedicate a whole subpage to. I couldn't be bothered to check the rest of the news services, I expect similar though.

The college football player with the fake girlfriend was news not because he had a fake girlfriend, but because his was a major sporting human interest story this year that turned into a bizarre train wreck. People are more interested in that than..well, than a story about something that kinda happens every year. Women's right march, million man march, march for life...,arches are kinda boring, and most typical Americans don't care when a bunch of fringes assemble, unless its something new, like the early days of the Ocupy or Tea Party demonstrations.

I read about this (page 2 - full bottom spread) in my hometown Newspaper (yes I still read a newspaper) the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Please note its an AP story

Abortion opponents march in Washington - TwinCities.com

Just how many news outlets have to be shown to report this before "appeasement" becomes "truth of the matter" ?

I agree with Rand Paul's words. [Noting - i agree with all of them basically] but here are Paul's words:

"I believe that great nations and great civilizations spring from a people who have a moral compass," Paul said. "Our nation is adrift, adrift in a wilderness where right and wrong have become subservient to a hedonism of the moment. I believe our country is in need of a revival."

Thanks Mike.

Excuse me but doesn't Rand Paul claim to be an Ayn Rand Libertarian ?

From what Objectivist viewpoint does THIS opinion spring from ?

Rand Paul has taken pains to make it clear that while he is a Libertarian, he isn't a Randite. Also, he was named after his Grandfather Randall, not the positively evil Ayn Rand.

Ok, fine he's a straight up libertarian.

So where does this critique of our society come from for THAT point of view.

Why is it ok for the corporate, the rich, the powerful the (please read this with a sneer) "job providers" to rape, pillage and marauder their way through the economy like a bunch of black jacketed motorcycle gang-bangers

BUT

When it suits his agenda all of a sudden America need a moral revival ?

If their hedonism is ok so is mine.

I didn't say he was good at being a libertarian.;)

Honestly, I don't know enough about Rand Paul to answer. He may just be the hypocrite you describe, what I know about him I learned on accident by paying attention to Ron Paul.

My version of hedonism as of late has consisted of falling asleep in front of the TV with a hockey game on with a half a drink going to waste in front of me. I need a jump start.

Mike, listen to what I say. I said the news. You posted a website and the story was buried, not on the Home page. up to a half million Christians marched for life and the pack page website link you posted called the "Abortion opponents"

It is so wonder we are losing the war in this country. We have luke warm Christians that attack other Christians for having the temerity to point out that the media refuses to cover Pro-life issues ina meaningful way.

Mike , do you watch the main stream news ? If I didn't mention that upwards of a half million Christians marched for life, you would have never mentioned it. Anyone who hs eyes to see and ears to hear understands the inherent bias of the main strsm News. Not a story buried on a webpage.

Why do you feel a need to defend the media?

Here is another example. Martha Raddatz interviews Senator Bob Menedez today for 6 minutes. They have a nice chat about immigration, but not one question as to why the FBI are investigating him for having sex with underage prostitutes in the Dominican Republic. Our fine Senator is accused of sleeping with youngs girls of age 16.

Did you know about this ? Of course you don't

It is the job of Christians to march for the sanctity of life and it is the job of Christians to point out the lack of meainful news coverage.

A lazy googling indeed. Again, main stream news Mike.

No, I don't watch the mainstream nations news. I watch my local news or read the paper, and I check CNN online once or twice a day. The march did make CNN, and I don't know if it made ABC's national TV news, but it did make the ABC News website in a big way. I don't think it's extremely noteworthy when people demonstrate in DC in a similar way to how the demonstrated in previous years. The marchers should keep up the good work...but try have to realize that a jaded public isn't going to pay attention unless they bring something new, unfortunately.

Every four years it is the March for Life's misfortune to compete with the Presidential inauguration (the inauguration was on 1/21 and the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade was 1/22.)

That may account for some of the lack of publicity (it might also account for larger numbers of out of towners being in Washington, D.C. that week).

News agencies are selective. I remember being so astonished after leaving for St. Louis for the Bible Belt to see that the World Series scores didn't even get a mention on the television news...they were too busy talking about the training camps for the local college football team.

And I couldn't believe that the high school football teams got press on Friday night TV. How rinky-dink can you get?

Well, it's a matter of perspective, I guess.

If he believed everything of Ayn - why would he say this?

"I believe that great nations and great civilizations spring from a people who have a moral compass,"

I dont understand why ppl [and i dont know Rand's philosophy enough to state much] - believe ifyou agree with some things someone has ever said - that automatically you are pegged as believing in everything someone has said.

I find some things taught In Buddhism to be inspiring - but i would never align myself as a follower.

I think ppl need to start understanding that we can accept some views - that doesnt mean we accept all views.

One word: Ratings.
Cannot argue that.

The more sensationalist - the more air time.
Lance Armstrong is now a household name... unfortunately.

People love gossip. It's hard for them to care about 'real' human interest stories involving the death of the innocent that they are more than likely desensitized at this point to care about.

Reminds me of that song - Dirty Laundry.

Need to get folks to watch for ratings - make the story juicy and enticing and who doesn't love a good 'Got cha' story?

Sad.

What's sad is that we did it. Maybe not you and me, of course, but the country did. The country isn't really interested in what's really going on anymore. A true investigative journalist is a dying breed. Today someone who styles themselves that will come on and report that everything in your home is trying to kill you instead of digging deep and uncovering the dirt that surrounds leaders and the like.

We don't want that. We want to be entertained too much and educated too little. We don't seem to want things to stimulate the mind but rather things to escape from the day-to-day. Escapism is fine on a limited basis, but not all the time.

Even when someone does want information, everything is too biased to get a really clear picture. Do you want your news liberal or conservative flavored? Would you like fries with that?

Cannot argue that.

Journalism has moved away from facts, no doubt.
And it is generally biased, also no doubt.
[which is why i sometimes investigate in the most unbiased media outlets i can find -to get the meat of the matter] But sometimes stories dont exist - per low priority.
Unfortunately, unbiased isnt norm.

Now for instance - this is news worthy in that half a million ppl went out in the freezing temps to protest.
And it continues to grow - proving this country is learning we dont need or want this.
Ireland does wonderful without it.

It shows an overall adjustment that we are 'personally' heading in the direction of pro life.

And i would hope someday - to join the march. I have always wanted to. However; i am not built 'cold friendly' in any way. I get frostbite easy [since i suffered it when i was younger]. I have cold weather asthma and overall hate driving or traveling in snow and cold and ice. And finances are a good consideration as well.

I give many kudos to those who braved the weather - and found cohesive friendships by doing so.
I am sure the stories were heart breaking -and i believe as more come and share - more will spread the news and so on.
Hoping if we cannot seem to get it out of legislature - we can still move hearts.

Someday - if i hit the lottery - would actually love to get this forum to meet there... :)
Think of the wonderful way to unite - in a truly blessed cause.
It might even change the dynamics in here when we 'see' one another as human beings and not mere words posted in e-time.
