This is a statement of fact by a very tired archbishop who knows better than anyone.

For the Global South, the Communion is about doctrinal unity. For the rest of us, the Communion is about English Christians jointly reaching out to the lost and the disadvantaged, celebrating our different styles of worship and outreach. In the end, neither side can be kicked out of the Communion.

put me immediately in mind of the passage in The Great Divorce where the priest (or bishop?) doesn't want to stay in Heaven because it would mean he had reached the destination.

Anyway, I think he is right in his observation, but wrong in thinking it is a good place to leave things.
