the vision of pope leo xiii

in 1884 pope leo xiii reported a vision that he had after celebrating mass in his private chapel
he said that he heard God and the devil having a conversation
the devil said he could destroy the church if God gave him 100 years and more power
God said basically "go ahead and try"

then pope leo instituted the prayer to st michael (which i love) and instructed it to be said after every low mass

i was just wondering if anyone has more info about this
i like speculation so i was wondering if there are any people (priests or religious or laypeople or academics etc) who wrote about this vision and the events that came to pass in the ensuing 100 years

i just find the vision very interesting
the 20th century sure progressed rapidly and it was definitely extremely bloody and it saw society completely abandon christian morality (even christian denoms)
id like to read more about what people think

anyone know of books or websites or anything?

I'm afraid that I have no more information for you; I don't even know if the vision is real or apocryphal. The prayer to St. Michael the Archangel, though, is a beautiful prayer.

WAIT, there's something about Catholicism you don't know about?

I've always found it an eerie and fascinating story as well, Elysium! And I believe it's true. May God bless the Catholic Church and the prayer of St. Michael prayer to continue to be said and meditated upon....

The wiki article on the origins of the St. Michael prayer has a good sampling of the different accounts of this story, with cited souces.

Prayer to Saint Michael - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

oh wow that is really interesting
so it might just be a speculation
so basically people close to the pope do say he had a vision that inspired the prayer
but the particularities of the vision are not confirmed
thanks for the link
