Yes, it is very important to read labels.

Nevertheless, there are some Antiochian Orthodox priests (especially those who are converts from Evangelicalism) who consider it a sin to read labels. They believe that one should just trust in God and put the food down the hatch. Imagine that?

Sorry, I highly disagree with that line of reasoning. Those are the same people who believe that Monsanto's GMO experimentation is just another conspiracy theory. Well, that pleases Monsanto and Dole. They would like us to be silenced so they can continue their ungodly experiments on plants, animals, and humans. When we eat GMO food, we are part of Monsanto's experiment.

I am sick and tired of those who utter "conspiracy theory." Their rantings of "conspiracy theory" are only a smokescreen, because the devil did initiate the first conspiracy against mankind, and Satan continues to war against us through his human cohorts.

So, yes, there has been one Satanic conspiracy after another starting with the one in the Garden of Eden.

Yes, it does get tiring hearing that. When you actually take the time to read up, research, and open your mind to what people are saying that you may have ignored before because of tunnel vision and selective hearing, you learn a lot.

Thankfully, there are other Antiochian priests who have sounded the warning about GMOs and who will not eat GMO corn because of the rat genes in it. They are cautioning people to be careful. Praise the Lord.

Yes, that is creepy especially when trying to be a vegan .... lactovegetarian.

The priest told us not to eat GMO corn during Lent as it had animal (rat) genes in it.

I stopped cooking beef when several packages of hamburger patties smelled like cow patties. Not even our cat would nibble at it. He would take a sniff from a distance and avoid the dish. Oh, cats can actually taste when they sniff food, and my sense of smell is almost as good.

So, in addition to the poor cattle in slaughter pens being fattened with GMO corn containing rat genes, these poor animals are also fed reused cow patties (50 percent of their food). That is animal abuse.

There is a TON of animal abuse in the meat industry...the FIRST reason I became a vegetarian. I hesitate to mention it lately because it usually leads to the "but animals are so dang tasty, gurney!" lines....but it's the reason I quit meat, not for health primarily, but because of cruelty. I can't bear it. And secondly, the health is a no-brainer.

In my area they caught several men on an assembly line beating cows mercilessly. They clubbed this one cow that wouldn't stand up, one man stood both his feet on its muzzle, the other electrified it in the face with a cattle prod. They beat it literally to death. It was caught on film by an animal rights guy. GOD BLESS HIM! They shut the slaughterhouse down and I was on cloud nine....

The our local hardcore Right-wingin' tea partyin' red state Congressman Devin Nunes fought and fought to defend those abusers and get the place opened back up....and it did indeed open ten days later. I hate Nunes. eeeshhh

Do you still have those stinky filthy Harris Ranch slaughter houses in your neck of the woods? They are also a weird bunch of red necks. We got lost in Fresno, stopped by one of their Harris-owned gas stations to get fuel and directions, and then found out that they have reported us for trespassing. Sheesh. We were not even near their smelly killing areas on the day that they falsely filed a police report on us (two months later). Apparently, they got our license plate from their gas station receipt and used that number to file the bogus police report. A sheriff officer came calling at 2 AM in the morning. I hope he slapped their wrists with handcuffs. If something has Harris Ranch on it, I refuse to buy it, and complain to the management that their meat stinks mightily.

Since Harris Ranch does not certify their meat as organically grown, we can assume that they also use GMO corn-cow poop to feed their slaughter animals.

You always ask me that, Maria! ^_^ I don't live in Fresno. I live in Visalia. We don't really have any slaughterhouses, thanks be to God, in town, and most are toward Hanford or up around Fresno. That one that got shut down that I mentioned, for horrific abuse, good ole' Republican Congressman Devin Nunes (a real crumb) made sure he opened that sucker up ASAP, lobbying for the "poor" workers there...sigh

That is sad.

And for the record, I am disgusted with most democrats and republicans.
They have sold our country to our creditors. Lord have mercy.

How can we make the use of Magnesium Stearate, Stearate Acid, and Calcium Stearate (vegetarian and non-vegetarian types) illegal?

The overwhelming majority of food preservatives and ingredients should be illegal anyway! :p

I guess writing congressmen (not mine, he's a steak-eatin' Red State good ole boy), senators, and articles to the paper, investigating online, heck I don't know?!

I agree, but do you have any suggestions?

Just found out about this and thought that it needed to be shared - as it concerns the full extent of abuse:

The ruminal cannual - permanent access to a cow's stomach to analyse the feed process to maximise meat and milk production. Beyond repulsive and heartbreaking.

One can go here and here for more information.

At universities they use it to to easily check digestive fluids and bacteria in different parts of the stomach. Some veterinary groups do it to diagnose digestive issues in cows (they can test without having to poke or do surgery every single time the test is needed). It basically prevents the need for multiple pokes if multiple tests are going to be needed or done. The ports can also be used to put antibiotics directly into the part of the stomach needed, rather than risking wiping out the entire bacteria colony for all 4 sections of the stomach.

Any other cases, I don't know. I prefer the academia side of biology. I don't condone this for anything that isn't needed for the cow really. And in academia where it is used for research (which food is digested the best, and whatnot), I know that very strict standards are used, and as few animals (usually just 1) are used as possible. But to clarify quickly, I know what this is supposed to be used for. But unless those cows are sick that are lined up with them, I don't know what they are being used for in those situations.

Sadly, genetically altered babies are already here:
Report: First Genetically Altered Babies - ABC News

"So far, two of the babies have been tested and have been found to contain genes from three ‘parents’."
World's First Genetically-Modified Babies Born, Or Were They? | LifeNews.com

How this will effect future generations we can't know.

I did research on this Saint Barnabas Hospital in New Jersey and it supposedly has no religious affiliation.

Just to add, this happened probably between 1997 and 2001.

I stay clear of GMO's too. I am so glad to hear that the Patriarch spoke against it. Sadly, I don't think the Pope has.

It shocked me, to be honest..although some, of course, will say "It's just animals - not people - so why are you protesting?!"

Hope y'all don't mind a non-Christian posting but I find this discussion very interesting especially as of late where I think I am starting to react quite negatively against some substances in foods and I am not sure what is causing it from preservatives to genetically modified foods.

I also find it really scary that so many big agriculture firms engineer seeds that do not reproduce at all so they can license out their product. Talk about holding the world's food supply up for ransom....
