if God is faithful then why do some Christians ended up commiting suicide?

sorry, i am not questioning God's faith fullness here.

i know God do not lie, and if He tells us He will give us strength in every situation and He will not let us go through something we can not bear, then He meant it.

but i often hear incidents such as this one i hear years ago, about this Christian man who suffered from depression, i think his mother died or something, and it was such a huge blow, he killed himself.

i often i wondered what went wrong there?

more importantly, is there something he should have done diff?

and what happens when we really need God but we can not feel His presence.

i know God is not obligated to let us feel His presence just because we ask Him to

but i am sure there are times in life where we literally reach the end of the road where we just really need to sense Him, to know He is there for us, and we will be ok.

Well, I personally have suffered from depression and there's been several times when I've been on the verge of commiting suicide, but I feel like God was stopping me. He knows that I'm not afraid of pain and that if He didn't stop me then I would have done it but He was probably stopping me because it just wasn't my time to go yet. If a depressed Christian has successfully commited suicide and God didn't stop them, perhaps it was just their destiny. I'm sure if they loved God and followed His Commandments then they'd still get a place in Heaven.

actually, i have been taught diff. i been taught that we are saved through our faith in Jesus Christ, hence regardless whether we commit suicide or not, we will always go to heaven....

but still, taking our own life is a sin, and we still receive judgement for it.

btw i can sort of relate to what you are going through as i suffer from depression myself, though thankfully in my case, it is under control.

Hosea 4:6 MY people are destroyed for lack of knowledge...
Isaiah 5:13 Therefore my people have gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge;...

I know I am saved but I still battle depression and fear. Some people battle pride others anger and still other lust. I could go on and on. I believe all of us have a thorn in our sides that limit our abundant life in Christ. For me I have to build myself in the faith by meditating on scripture pertaining to the renewing of my mind to the mind of Christ and many others I can mention.

Is there a difference in depression and discouragement?

I find it very difficult to find any encouragement for anything except to become (like) somebody else and take on their values and what not.

bugkiller

depression is a medical issue, i suppose it is like discouragement but it is much severe in scale and it is ongoing.

anyway, i am dissapointed not many people want to answer this question, as i imagine the answers could help alot of people.

Well, .... it's good to know that you are a tripartite man (spirit, soul and body). Even if a Christian is strong in his/her spirit, a problem in their soul (psychologically) will still override any benefits in their experience of Christ. All three parts of our being needs to be proper and functioning (c.f. 1 Thes. 5:23) to be useful to the Lord and also to pursue Him.

We should not try to spiritualize things. If we have problems like depression or psychological problems, please, seek medical expertise. Because Satan will use the severely damaged and fallen soul to contemplate suicide. No matter, how high or how deep your experience of Christ in your spirit, if the soul or the body is destroyed, your Christian life ends there.

Once their soul (psychology) is "treated", then the experience of the Lord's grace and the prayers of the believers (in the spirit) is needed to overcome the problem.

A Christian kills himself and that's God's fault? What an Obama-like thing to say.

What does "feel God's presence" mean?

God being 'faithful' and God being 'trusted' are two very different things.

Look at Elijah. Right after he had helped demonstrate God's power on Mt. Carmel and he ran away from the king, he said: “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.”(1 Kings 19)

God's faithfulness doesn't mean our best life now.

We still live in a sick world, and we ourselves still labor under sin and death until the Day Christ returns.

That sounds really cliche' I suppose, but I don't mean it in an off-the-cuff fashion. I was diagnosed with clinical depression several years ago, and currently take medication for it. While I never attempted suicide, I had suicidal thoughts--intense feelings of anxiety, hopelessness, despair. These weren't from God, and I still trusted in God (and I believe my faith in God kept me very much alive); and I also know others who have attempted suicide.

As Martin Luther writes, this world is not where justice reigns. We live in an unjust world, where unjust things happen. People suffer needlessly and pointlessly, tyrants rule unopposed over subjected persons and oppress them. We live in a world such as this, a sick world, a disturbed world. A world where people are hurting.

Where God's faithfulness stands is this: We have been given the opportunity, in Christ, who is saving this world, to go out into the world and actually serve the hurting and the suffering amongst us. To stand with them, in solidarity with their hurt. To weep as they weep, to mourn as they mourn, and to have joy in their joy. To stand with Christ, as He stands with the least of these. This is our calling in Him, to be servants, to be bearers of good news, to lift high this cross and labor among all whom God loves.

Peace to you, brother.

My heart goes out to those of you suffering from depression.
My brother was 4yrs older than me. He was a football & baseball star in High School, president of the student council, A+ student,... graduated from Harvard with a degree in psychology, but took his life a few years later.

I was diagnosed with schizophrenia at 15, but I wouldn't take my Thorazine. It was realy hard to fight off delusion & paranoia, but I grew out of it. Not everyone can do that tho, because we have such different biochemistry. My son is severely bi-polar & must stay heavily medicated. He has learned the importance of this in a very, very, hard, life threatening way. So he willingly stays on them now in spite of the inconvenience & discouraging side effects.
God is good, but life very frequently isn't.
During one of my depressions I noticed my focus was entirely on myself. So I distracted myself from me with hard work. I was able to go from that to focusing on other people's problems & mine began to shrink.

God is faithful and just to forgive and He does His part by providing us with a way out but we also have a part in this. James 1 tells us to rejoice in our trials knowing that, for our faith, it produces patience so it's up to us to respond to trials as a rejoicing thing (not "Yeah my life is falling apart" but "I'm going to trust in God for He'll get me through this"). At times we do know the provision that God has for us but we choose to sin anyway. That's our fault.
