Please don't be coy. Why not just admit your assumptions and deal with the consequences?

Why not just deal with what you see? Why find excuses?

I wasn't being coy...just wanted to see what reaction it would bring with no outside input. And...our nation is presently dealing with the consequences!

Are you saying I can infer what I want from this? You might not like that. Just trying to give you a chance to speak for yourself.

I'm not a big government believer. So yes, I am saying you can infer what you want. I prefer to let you make your own mind up and deal with it as you see it. I do.

Over 18% of my state is on food stamps. It's hard to not know multiple people using them. I assure you, every single one that I know has TV cable and generally a nice big flat screen TV, cell phones, and most have current video game systems in their homes, many buy alcohol and/or smokes, and none have ever spoken of their struggle to get off of food stamps or any other form of assistance.

These programs are usually referred to as entitlement programs for a reason, our government and society have worked diligently to make people feel they are entitled to such things, and we do more and more to encourage people to get on the entitlement bandwagon and less and less to encourage people to get off.

It's a chosen lifestyle for FAR too many Americans.

Obviously, you chose that specific article for a reason. Not stating that reason is dishonest.

Cutting assistance programs doesn't equal an increase in economic recovery
Exactly. Getting more jobs is wonderful. Go about creating them. Don't cut people off from food if they need it though. The idea that you just cut food stamps and jobs start magically appearing is a pipe dream. Electing a Republican wont make the food stamp program obsolete. They aren't going to give everyone a high paying job.

Romney will get people working again so fewer will need food stamps, unlike Obama who has seen the number of Americans on food stamps and in poverty grow. Do liberals really want more of this "progress" like the last 4 years?

True. The definition of "poor" in America is vastly different than the true meaning of poor found in Africa or Mexico.

Televisions, cable, video games...$800.00 in one's stolen $400.00 purse in the backseat of one's automobile. Poor enough for food stamps? That is the question.

I agree. Although sadly, some really need it, others choose it and feel they are "entitled" to those programs....just because.

It seems you're implying that if someone has foodstamps, they shouldn't be able to own nice things. Do you know how she got that purse? That cash? I was dirt poor and had a few nice things, mostly gifts that I made last for years.

Earlier you said you did assume, yet here you state the exact assumptions I listed.

Sounds like a reasonable assumption to me. Are you advocating food stamps for the rich? Isn't it the responsibility of the rich that have fallen on hard times to sell their luxury possessions to feed themselves before they take money taxed from those that do not live such luxurious lifestyles?

LOL. Nothing needed to be stated with what is clearly obvious.
How is it obvious? You don't know when she purchased those item or if they were a gift. You don't know the reason she had that much cash in her wallet nor what percentage of her money that is. Like I said, you're making a lot of assumptions.

Many "small government conservatives" seem to have no issue with telling some people what they can and cannot spend their money on.

I'd word that differently, many of us "small government" types have a HUGE problem with how other people spend OUR money.
