Likely none.

Who knows what writings we're considered biblical cannon at some points throughout history and later removed, or even added.

Not to mention the bible is already considered perfect and inerrant by many Christians; this discovery would likely be considered fraudulent or a trick by the devil, by these Christians.

That's just my opinion anyway.

I tend to agree, but considering the hoohah with Dan Brown's book I wonder if it will get blown out of proportion?

I really couldn't say.

Regardless of how much noise is made on it, i doubt it will have any lasting impact.

Not as much as something being found that may, prove something that is currently in the bible.

There is no reason to believe one way or the other about Jesus' marital status from the NT, however as has been pointed out, this particular manuscript is much later than the gospels and I'd be guessing that without a larger sample of the text it would be difficult to actually date the content of the manuscript.

I personally don't see how it would make a difference one way or the other. Being married is not a sin after all. In the Roman Catholic church where priests are not allowed to marry is not actually a belief but a discipline. Each new pope has to say if they are going to keep with that or allow priests to marry.
For some whose faith is weak it may be a problem just like some can't cope with the thought that maybe Jesus actually had brothers (well half brothers anyway). It makes no difference to me but for some it raises issues that question basics of the christian faith. I have no idea how they arrive at such a conclusion but will at least respect that they do.

Small cleanup done. A couple of posts were removed due to violation. The rest were removed because they answered a deleted post and would make no sense without it. If your post is gone but you didn't receive a staff notice, you're fine.

To my mind proving that jesus was married would certainly make the bible more consistent with most Christians.
It should go without saying that most christians are political & social conservatives so if it was proved that christ was actually married to a women then this would make their calls for family values that much more believable because it would prove christ was himself married to women(mary magdalene) while we are on this issue, they may as well add the assertion that jesus had kids as well that would really bring christ into the post modern age make him a much more pragmatic figure to follow at the present time I think the only people whom are benefiting out of christ being single and being said to hang around with 12 males are the gay community.

I have never been one to believe there is anything natural about the ascetic lifestyle or the orders of RC priests.
Seems many practising christians and clergy believe jesus was married. They simply keep this belief in secret anyway they are just not game enough to come out and say it in public or if clergy with some standing in their religious organisations come and make an official statment saying that certain section of priests/ministers believes this quote etc.

Question: "Was Jesus Christ married? Did Jesus have a wife?"

Answer:
The recent discovery and translation of the fourth-century "Jesus' wife papyrus" has reopened the discussion as to whether Jesus had a wife / was married. The "Jesus' wife papyus" says, "Jesus said to them, 'My wife ...'" This discovery is interesting in that it is the first Gnostic writing to explicitly state that Jesus had a wife. While a couple of the Gnostic gospels mention Jesus having a close relationship with Mary Magdalene, none of them specifically state that Jesus was married to her or to anyone else. Ultimately, it does not matter what the "Jesus' wife papyrus" or Gnostic gospels say. They have no authority. They have all been proven to be forgeries invented to create a Gnostic view of Jesus.

If Jesus had been married, the Bible would have told us so, or there would be some unambiguous statement to that fact. Scripture would not be completely silent on such an important issue. The Bible mentions Jesus’ mother, adoptive father, half-brothers, and half-sisters. Why would it neglect to mention the fact that Jesus had a wife? Those who believe/teach that Jesus was married are doing so in an attempt to “humanize” Him, to make Him more ordinary, more like everyone else. People simply do not want to believe that Jesus was God in the flesh (John 1:1, 14; 10:30). So, they invent and believe myths about Jesus being married, having children, and being an ordinary human being.

A secondary question would be, “Could Jesus Christ have been married?” There is nothing sinful about being married. There is nothing sinful about having sexual relations in marriage. So, yes, Jesus could have been married and still be the sinless Lamb of God and Savior of the world. At the same time, there is no biblical reason for Jesus to marry. That is not the point in this debate. Those who believe Jesus was married do not believe that He was sinless, or that He was the Messiah. Getting married and having children is not why God sent Jesus. Mark 10:45 tells us why Jesus came, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

I copy and pasted this from: GotQuestions.org
