This is fantastic. God bless the people who are working so hard to give hope to these hopeless girls. A very sad ending with the news about Tina, but from her time on the video, she seemed like she lived a life with much joy and happiness. May her memory be eternal.

Yes, glory to God for Fr. Ignatius and Sister Nectaria!

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I had to brag on my daughter. She spent a month and a half in calcutta early this year, volunteering in a school for the children of the brothel workers. The female children of sex workers are about 95% sure to do the same thing their mother did to survive. The boys get into all kinds of tough spots, too. This school was set up to TRY to give them a way out. Many kids live on the premises and they teach during the day and at night. They try to stay available as a refuge for the kids, because otherwise many of them would be in the room while their mothers were "working."
My daughter was profoundly moved and spends all of her time trying to figure out a way to earn enough money to go back. (This is the 3rd trip abroad i have paid for. she's on her own from here on out!)

I don't know how the teachers there do it. these kids are wonderfully kind and sweet. They all have dreams of becoming Dr.s, etc. But the odds are so heavily stacked against them, particularly with the caste system that is still so prevalent in india. Interestingly, she learned that prostitutes are a step above the 'untouchables," people who work with the dead. her school had some kind of trtaining for the parents of some of these kids. The prositutes wouldn't sit with or speak to the parents who worked in the crematorium.

Huh, that's interesting.
