So, in case anyone hasn't realized, the general trend these days is to go to Church zealously through high school/first few years of college and then kind of drift away.

Christian Piatt: Why Young Adults Forget the Church to Follow Jesus

I find it interesting, because I generally agree. I haven't been to church (except for a wedding) for any sort of service for six months. I pray regularly, follow certain Christian religious leaders I admire on blogs and such, but I just don't attend church any more, despite knowing and believing intellectually that I should.

A variety of reasons I guess. The cliche-ey insularity, the ugly looks because I was a poor student and looked like it. It just never seemed to say anything that really mattered in my life, and none of the churches I've ever attended have ever given any indication that they were interested in having me join or continue attending. So I guess it's not like I hate it at all, but more like, "meh".

Let me apologize for the stand-off attitude you have recieved at church.

The church by and large has abandoned it's primary duty of reaching the lost and growing the believers. We must do better. Souls are at stake!

I don't know how long you've been a Christian or what your gifts are, but, maybe you should consider starting a home group? I'm sure you know others who are in the same boat as you. Get them together and have a Bible study. You don't have to be a Biblical scholar to lead a home group. There are great resources available for just such a group. Get together weekly, read and learn together, help each other out. Invite the curious. Ask God to guide. Who knows? It might just take off!

I do not attend church though I did formerly. I am now taught that the average church in the average community engages in false/corrupt doctrine in a variety of ways and I believe it.

The main-line denominational churches and the RCC generally deny the power of the Holy Spirit. This situation is covered in Matthew 12:32.

Many churches are adopting/promoting Judaistic practices. This would be going back under under the law which is covered in Gal 3.

Many allow witchcraft in the churches. Consider the popularity of Harry Potter with ignorant or uninformed christian parents allowing Harry Potter in their homes for their children. Martial arts classes sanctioned by churches. Many more examples could be mentioned.

Modern churches use/follow all sorts of ritual, which itself is a religious spirit, one of the devil's best innovations.

Consider how Christendom has broken into hundreds of splinter groups. These supposed Christian groups are all based on the same truth, the Word of God. The conclusion you have to come to is that one group, at most, will get their followers off the planet at the rapture. The rest of the groups would get their followers the lake of fire.

The easy way off the planet is read the Word, obey the Word and love the Word (Recall that the Word is Jesus per John 1:1). Also, you must be born again to see the kingdom of God ( Jesus speaking in John 3:3-7 )

What could be easier?

i am sorry to hear this.... but unfortunately church is made of sinners, even sinners to deliberate sins against others....

you have no control over someone else behaviors ( believe me, i know, i had my fair share of church horror stories). But you have control over yours, and most imp God has full control over your life.

Scripture tells us not to drift away from other Christians, and if we do it, we do it at our own peril. i would find a church that looks ok to you, and just go for it. Do it for your walk with God.

May I ask who or what is teaching you this?
The main-line denominational churches and the RCC generally deny the power of the Holy Spirit.
Not sure about the RCC, but I don't believe you can say this with any remote level of confidence about Southern Baptists, Evangelical Free, Lutheran-Missouri Synod, and a host of others, particularly in the Reformed arena. What, exactly, are you calling a "mainline denominational church"?
Many churches are adopting/promoting Judaistic practices.
Examples of those practices and the churches adopting or promoting them, please?
Many allow witchcraft in the churches. Consider the popularity of Harry Potter with ignorant or uninformed christian parents allowing Harry Potter in their homes for their children. Martial arts classes sanctioned by churches. Many more examples could be mentioned.
Still buying into that, huh? It isn't enough for you to be told that Ms. Rowling is a Christian, and that her storyline is in the richest Christian traditions of Tolkien (The Hobbit and The Ring Trilogy) and Lewis (the Narnia series)?
Modern churches use/follow all sorts of ritual, which itself is a religious spirit, one of the devil's best innovations.
Again, examples please?
Consider how Christendom has broken into hundreds of splinter groups. These supposed Christian groups are all based on the same truth, the Word of God. The conclusion you have to come to is that one group, at most, will get their followers off the planet at the rapture. The rest of the groups would get their followers the lake of fire.
And you have an idea which group that will be, I would guess?
The easy way off the planet is read the Word, obey the Word and love the Word (Recall that the Word is Jesus per John 1:1). Also, you must be born again to see the kingdom of God ( Jesus speaking in John 3:3-7 )

What could be easier?
I wouldn't call living the Christian life "easy" given that the flesh continually rears it's ugly head. But it is made easier if we ignore cultural boogeymen that don't really exist.

So, take the Bible, pay attention to the Gospels and everyone wins. No loathing people to offer disparaging remarks or acts, and replace tithing with acts of compassion or regularly donate to a good cause with funds or work. (do both for the enjoyment of it)

The Lord knows you, I don't see the benefits in supporting a institution where a handful of appointees or elects on salary w/retirement plans determine direction.

It's no wonder to me that people see the church institution for what it is.
This church thing has gotten out of hand, just another tax-exempted money gathering business that fails to preach, teach, and act. But they still have salaries, retirement plans, medical & dental for all staff and associates. Not even the church institution has a balance budget, just bet many have extended mortgages, (probably refinanced) and loans to repay loans.

1 Timothy Chapter 4

1. Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

3. Forbidding to marry, [and commanding] to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

2 Timothy Chapter 3

1. This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

2. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

3. Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

4. Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

5. Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

6. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

7. Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Is this a joke? Do you know the original meaning of "Witchcraft" in the Bible? It's not condemning a fictional book. Witchcraft has some 20 different meanings. The Greek use in the New Testament has nothing to do with magic or Wicca.

Thanks Paul, so what did Jesus teach?
