The Oriental Orthodox Churches are not in Communion with Rome. The Eastern Oriental Catholic Churches are, not orthodox though.

right, to be in communion with Rome is to not be in communion with the OO

Not quite, I asked why aren't the Oriental Orthodox and Eastern Orthodox in communion with one another

That's what he's asking.

And the answer is: "For the same reason the Oriental Orthodox and the Roman Catholics aren't in communion." When that schism happened we were still one church. The answer is the Council of Chalcedon (Fourth Ecumenical Council). The Orientals didn't agree with the Christological formulas defined by the Council.

To the OP, the reason there was confusion I think is because we generally hear or refer to ourselves as Eastern Orthodox if we have an adjective at all, wheras we're also more used to often hearing of the Byzantine Catholics. I don't think many of us consider ourselves "Byzantine."

That might be an interesting poll lol.

To the Eastern Orthodox: all of your divine liturgies are from the family of Byzantine Rites isn't it? Like the Catholic Church being predominantly Roman Rite, with the exception of the various, but significantly smaller Eastern Rites and non-Roman Latin Rites. Whereas the Oriental Orthdox is a composition of the liturgical families of Alexandrian, Antiochene, Armenian, and Chaldean. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Mostly, yes. We do also have a small minority of Parishes and Monasteries that serve the Western (Roman) Rite Mass.
