Did you read the book Mach? I read that thing about 5 times when it came out.

Hal Lindsey - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"In a later book, entitled, The 1980s: Countdown to Armageddon, [19] he indicated that he believed it was possible that the battle of Armageddon could take place in the not too distant future, stating, "the decade of the 1980s could very well be the last decade of history as we know it." [20]. He noted again that there is no reference to the U.S. in bible prophecy. He listed a few scenarios that seemed plausible to him at the time: (1) A takeover by communists, (2) destruction by a surprise Soviet nuclear attack, or (3) becoming a dependent of the 10-nation European community.[21]. The book was on the NY Times bestseller list for over 20 weeks.

Planet Earth - 2000 A.D., published in the early 1990s, states that Christians should not plan to still be on earth by the year 2000.

Lindsey's earlier predictions all assumed that the Cold War would continue indefinitely, and had eschatological significance; he explicitly identified Russia with the apocalyptic figure of Gog. He also assumed that the 1960s counterculture would eventually become the dominant culture, and become the source of prophesied "immorality" that would lead to the establishment of a false religion.

Those bolded phrases are not suggesting that Lindsay believed the end of the world would occur in the 80's, contrary to what you claimed. And no, I didn't read the book but know enough of Hal to believe he would never specify when the Rapture would occur, but he does indeed speculate as do many others.

More word games. Why would someone listen to someone who speculations are so very frequently wrong?

All the countless speculations of the world ending in the past were futile but one of these days someone is bound to get it right. The earth can't last forever can it?

No.
But i do wonder which will last longer. Humans or Earth.

Seems Hal's made a pretty good living doing that for almost 40 years now. Wish I could find such a great "job" as "speculation" on prophecy.

For all of you sittin' on your suitcases awaitin' fer that Jesus train to come and carry you away, forget it. When He comes, He's going to surprise us all. When He comes, He's going to take those who are doing His work, feeding the poor, caring for the old and sick, visiting prisoners, and bringing justice to orphans and widows.

We don't need to know when the world is going to end, because it's TODAY, right NOW. The world ends for someone every single minute. We need to live our lives for Christ every day, feeding His sheep instead of wasting our time and energy on idle speculations made by self appointed prophets who falsely use God's word, sensationalizing and misleading for profit.

Somehow this has been overlooked by the media - but Saudia is trading oil to China for shelf ready missles, no matter what happens or what shortage may exist.

Hal Lindsey reported on this today - interesting - lines up with what the Bible says about the 200 million man army marching down the Euphrates - it will be for the oil.

LOL ... as long as the missiles are for shelf use, I'm guessing the Saudis will be happy.

I'm envisioning a white picket fence of missiles lined up along one of their borders.

Kinda like playing with fire, I'd guess ... Reminds me of the time I watched a fireworks display go badly errant. For a few minutes stuff was shooting off in all directions across the ground.

To be fair to Hal, I don't know how much money he's made off his chosen "career". I understand he didn't always get great publishing deals.

Still, doing this for a living professionally for 40 or so years, must be nice.

Beats having to work I guess.
