Welcome...

I'm sure that would be a fun topic but criticizing or attempting to discredit Christianity would violate the rules. Perhaps try asking specific questions in the Learning about Christianity forum?

Really? So there can be no opposition? Even the mildest one? All we want is just to converse about your faith.....

I don't need ask questions, I was a christian. All we want is a debate.

Actually, I'm a Witch (hence my brilliantly clever name). I don't mind debating my beliefs; it doesn't really threaten me, though any such debate would probably be far less entertaining.

Debate happens in the course of discussion and I poke fun in good humor sometimes (ok, a lot), but I think outright seeking a debate like this is probably frowned upon by the mods.

Wow, really?I know an ex witch.

For about 15 years.

There's no such thing as an ex-witch; he or she must never have been a real witch to begin with. Just like you were never really a Christian. :D:D:D:D

Hello there, I am an atheist, and I am welcoming all christians to have a little informal debate, and discussion about arguments for and arguments against christianity.

Everybody is welcome to talk and everything. I only ask for nice, and respectable questions and for you to activly join in.

You would probably find a more receptive audience in the http://www.christianforums.com/f1037/ Exploring Christianity subforum. A lot of non-Christians here and you seem to be looking for a debate on Christianity itself.

Well if anybody wants to debate, our site has no restrictions on criticizing or trying ot prove atheism wrong.
The thinking atheist dot com (no spaces)

Then click the forums, we welcome theists or deists... Most of us are even respectful. Hope to see you there.....

I was hoping on having the debate here, but.....

Oh, I love debate. I just don't have many "for" arguments when it comes to Christianity. ;)

I do not need to know about christianity.... My true goal here was to rebut some of the arguments for christianity and against atheism.... I was a Christian for thirteen years, I think I know what it is about.

Ahhh.... The "No true Scottsman" fallacy. You're kidding, right?
Naturally.

There used to be a section of these forums titled "General Apologetics" that was intended for exactly the kind of discussion you'd like to have.

But that was under the original owner, who at some point grew so disgusted with the more... ah... fundamentally minded adherents of his own religion that he threw up his hands in frustration and sold the site.

GA was closed down unceremoniously, mostly because it was perceived as a threat to "Christians not secure in their faith". (In other words: Non-Christians pretty much OWNED every single discussion.)
Non-Christian members were given to understand that they were tolerated guests at best.

Things have improved at least slightly since then, (although a friend of mine received a permanent ban from this site simply because some of the mods wanted her gone, probably because she wanted to talk about Voodoo at some point, resulting in a new site rule especially made for her.)

So yeah, respectful discussion probably will not lead to negative repercussions, unless one of the mods is having a bad day.

Have you read the rules for that sub-forum?

It was supposed to be the replacement for General Apologetics, and it's got its rules specifically tweaked to make any real discussion impossible, stacking the deck in favour of Christianity to the degree that you can only call it "cheating" (, making you question why they have so little faith in the strength of their own arguments).

You are only allowed to post QUESTIONS, only Christians are allowed to reply, and the original poster may then ask follow-up questions (for clarification purposes only). And if your replies indicate that you do not buy the poor arguments you are given, it won't be long before somebody accuses you of "not having a real interest in learning the answers" and "just wanting to antagonize and insult Christianity".

At least that's what that forum was like the last time I visited.

I see. That's... unfortunate.

That's quite comical.

Such restrictions should set some alarm bells off, I'd think.
