THe Contradictions of Liberals and Conservatives

Most Americans who are in the slightest degree politically active or interested incline to one of the two chief political positions common in this country, what we call conservatism or liberalism. In fact, each of these blocs constitutes not only a political grouping, but a cultural group as well, each with its favorite publications and web sites, radio shows, almost its own distinct ways of dressing and eating. Although there is much that one could say about these two groups, I want to comment on one thing only about them. This is that each of them is conscious of the claims of the common good and firmly committed to restraint of human passions, backed up even by the authority of law, in one sphere or area of human life, and equally committed to a laissez-faire policy in another sphere. While each group seems to be aware of the dangers that unrestrained acquiescence in human weakness poses to the social good in one area, each is equally blind to those same dangers in another and equally crucial sphere of life....

Interesting reflection.

That is why some of us speak also of two additional schools of thought -- libertarianism and communtarian. I've long considered myself of the communitarian school.

Wait, America has a left wing?

Yeah, its all relative, isn't it. The article is speaking pretty generally though so I think his observation holds pretty well in that sense. He isn't really looking at the terms liberal and conservative in a very technical sense.

Yeah, I take it back; was thinking of somebody else.

Still... He's the complete 180 - Too sympathetic of Muslim extremism.

He's the one who said that gay people aren't executed in Iran; only rapists. Completely omitted the fact that gay people are kind of forced into having sex change operations.

Wait, America has a left wing?

A.k.a. The Democrat-Republican party. The United States has a faux 'duopoly'; a facade that is leaves the average citizen not realising that in policy, practise, 'donors' and corporate backers: both the Democrats and Republicans are virtually the same party. Sure there are a few mavericks and true dissenters on both sides (See: Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul, respectively); however, there is precious little that separates the two. They are essentially one party. With a smattering of minor competitors (i.e. 'Third Parties').

Don't tell me your a shill for Israel and the Zionists? I'll assume that you're not. However, for your benefit, know that 'Zionism' is ideology condemned by the Roman Catholic Church and Israel as a nation-state (and subsequently any papal support of Zionism) was rejected by Pope St Pius X at the beginning of the Twentieth century, save for the condition that, every Jew submit to baptism and reception into the Catholic Church. That was requirement for the Church's support of the nation-state of Israel. I should rather like to think that it still remains firmly as ever.

Zionism in America really turns my stomach. Israel institutes a policy of apartheid with the Arab population in her own nation-state. She cuts off trade to vast swathes of the West Bank to international and regional trade. Even Christian Arabs, who have lived there since the time of Christ are forced to flee or seek work elsewhere as Israel is depressing their towns; inhibiting work and depopulating towns like Nazareth and Bethlehem of Christians; places that even until recently were of Christian majority. Now, they are lamentably no longer so. Israel wants America to strong-arm the Arabs in the Middle-East so that she can have her way and to protect Israel. She rockets the Gaza strip and West Bank continually with little regard to the civilian collateral damage. It is as if Israel has a death grip upon America with regards to American Zionists being so quixotically supportive of Israel; as if, it were even a sort of pact to the death or a similar sort of devil's bargin.

This all the while, Americans and particularly, American Zionists, turn a blind-eye to it. Any slight criticism of Israel always is an excuse to raise the canard or resurrect the spectre of alleged 'Anti-Semitism' to silence one's opposition and opponents effectively.

Its also shamful to see fellow Catholics support the criminal zionist regime in their oppression of their fellow Christians in Occupied Palestine...

I don't know if this post was directed at me or not, but I in no way, shape or form, accept Zionism or the way Israel conducts itself today.

With that said, I also WILL NOT play stupid with what some of these Muslim countries have done, are currently doing to it's denizens.

Only another reason as to what I have been saying on here since I joined: It's time for the U.S. to return back to being an isolationist country with regards to military and ideological conflicts elsewhere.

Not 'isolationist' good Sir, rather: Non-interventionist policies of America's Founding Fathers. :) I was a tad confused and flummoxed by your last posting. I'd aimed my post at you; although, I had a difficult time deciphering, what it was you were actually saying. I couldn't tell whether you were praising or speaking against, Zionism and the over-the-top measures of the Israeli government or not?

Isolationist, non-intervention, things that made us stay away out of the "old world's" affairs. Disband NATO, close the numerous U.S. bases around the world, set-up shop here along the U.S. border.

I'd go as far as having the U.S. give up it's seat at the United Nations Security Council, aka League of Nations 2.0.

I was mistaken by the politician S.ilvio posted. I, at first, thought he was someone who is staunch pro-Israel. He's not...but he's a bit over the top with the support of Muslim countries and gives them too much slack. Hence my last post:
