Is it biblical to say God meets you where you're at?

I guess i kind of see what you are saying. In that, He met us on earth as we are.

But i'm talking about examples like the a man who won't give up his drinking and womanizing. Or a woman who won't give up the idols of our past and partying. Is it biblcial to say He meets us where we are at then? Or do you have to come to Him and meet Him where He is at?

Scriptures begs us to come to Christ. But God does work everything together for good, Romans 8:28. God became flesh, John 1:14. The Holy Spirit will come down to our level of where we are & pray on our behalf, Romans 8:26. Christ met Apostle Paul (Saul) where he was at on the road of Damascus. While we were yet sinners, God came to where we were & demonstrated His own love by dying for us, Romans 5:8.

"No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day." - John 6:44.

God of course needs to start somewhere. I don't know of anyone who has been saved out of those lifestyles who didn't have a "won't give this up" phase. One way or another, God called them out of that kind of life, sometimes it took a long time.

Someone who i respect greatly told me that a wonderful thing about Jesus is that meets you where you at? Can that be inferred from scripture that that is true?

If we could meet Jesus where He's at then there would be no need for Him to have come down here and do what He did. None of this is of our doing. We can't clean ourselves up, He does it. We can't meet Him where He's at, that's why He came here, to meet us where we're at.

Our righteousness is as filthy rags. He comes to us while dead in our sins and Saves us. Then He Sanctifies (sets us apart). We could do nothing without him. He meets us exactly where we're at and pulls us up out of the darkness as only Jesus can do. He gets all the Glory, not us.

It's Him, not us.

Isaiah 64:6

New King James Version (NKJV)

6 But we are all like an unclean thing,
And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags;
We all fade as a leaf,
And our iniquities, like the wind,
Have taken us away.

1 Corinthians 1:26-31

New King James Version (NKJV)

26 For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. 27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; 28 and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, 29 that no flesh should glory in His presence. 30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption— 31 that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.”[a]

2 Corinthians 10:12-17

New King James Version (NKJV)

12 For we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves with those who commend themselves. But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise. 13 We, however, will not boast beyond measure, but within the limits of the sphere which God appointed us—a sphere which especially includes you. 14 For we are not overextending ourselves (as though our authority did not extend to you), for it was to you that we came with the gospel of Christ; 15 not boasting of things beyond measure, that is, in other men’s labors, but having hope, that as your faith is increased, we shall be greatly enlarged by you in our sphere, 16 to preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man’s sphere of accomplishment.
17 But “he who glories, let him glory in the Lord.”[a]

Well, as with all good relationship, each has to accept the other.
Ofcourse with God being God there are some dynamic that will happen that can't happen with a human friend.

Yet the Gospel is the fantastic news that God came to earth to be one of us. The world wasn't perfect. Even Israel wasn't perfect, and for the most part they missed what God was doing in Christ. Yet Jesus still came to earth to live as a Jew under the law that He might win some.

Good question.

God will call us as sinners who are dead in sin. And yes, most, if not all of us, will have idols and sin in our lives in that moment that we're probably not to keen on giving up. But part of repentance is being willing to submit to the Spirit despite what our sinful flesh wants. Sometimes He`ll pull those sins out of our lives instantly, in other cases the sanctification is a gradual process and we'll wake up one morning five years from now and realize that the sin we idolized so much is no longer reigning in our lives.

As for the popular notion that we can come to salvation without a repentant spirit because He'll meet us where we're at... no. That has no Scriptural backing.

I think what your friend is talking about is that you donn't have to change before you come to Jesus. You come to him as you are. Another way to say it is "God loves us the way we are, but too much to leave us that way."

Agreed. 1st John 4:19 says we love Him because He first loved us. Romans 5:8 follows that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us where we were as sinners so that we can go to where He is & become more like Him, Philippians 2:5.

I agree with both of the above. Sometimes people think they have to get their lives together BEFORE they come to Christ (like, "i need to get over my addiction, get a hold of my vices," etc), whereas it is Christ who saves and cleanses you. If we could fix ourselves, then we wouldn't need a Savior. But like was said before, we still need to have repentant hearts... He's not going to shove himself down our throats

Agreed, he's not going to force us to follow Him. His gift of life is there it is up to us to accept it.
