What does the bible say? Does it not say that Christ descended? Does it not say that hell is in the lower parts of the earth?

When the scriptures were written, I doubt they knew much about the lower regions of the Earth being molten lakes of fire.

Or is it in the spiritual realm? Could Mercury or Neptune be hell? The middle of the earth? Parts unknown?
It does not matter to me if hell is literal or metaphorical, a planet or a hole in the ground, all I am convinced of is that it is real, a form of immence suffering, and a state of separation from God and that is enough to know. I'll leave arguing over the literalness or figurativenss of hell, its mechanics, and architecture to others. :)

But the scripture is not based on their knowledge, but Gods.

So it is alleged. And yet,one may afford the observation that sinful men united in at least three different councils, elected at their discretion what "books" containing the "words of God" would qualify to be contained with the closed canon that is todays Bible.

Thereby appointing themselves possessed of the right to act as God's editors in chief.

While, if the scripture truly was not based on their knowledge, then all of God's breath would be available as the Word(s) of God today and there would be no such thing as the Apocrypha.

To the OP.
If Hell were a real place, it speaks volumes against the omnibenevolent nature afforded in an omniscient omnipresent omnipotent creator.
To create humans in deficit in the beginning, and to then not forgive the first mistake the first of our kind made in the garden but to then annoint as sinners all of humanity for infinity, allowing them to be born sinners due to that first mistake of Adam and Eve.

And to then create a place for the first Angel of God's creation to reside after let to live having failed in his leadership of a rebellion in Heaven, so that not only Ha Satan would reside in Hell but so to would those damned from birth, if they did not save themselves from God's judgment, is not evidence of a divine infinitely kind God.

However, it is evidence of sadistic men intent on scaring people into complying with the new doctrine.

I think in order for you to answer any question as to the "truth" of Hell, you have to do the research on how such a place came to be in the Apostles Creed.

And in order to do that I think you have to realize that Christianity has it's beginning in Judaism. And that in Judaism there is no Hell.

There is Sheol. Which is not at all like it.

And I think you have to research with an open mind, not a frightened heart, and ask the spirit of Christ, which is different than the word of man speaking for and about him, to lead you to the truth.

Researching on~line the keywords: "Hell Allegory" may help a great deal. Or, the Etymology dictionary listing for Hell.

And yet they were correct about the lower regions of the Earth being molten lakes of fire. But if the damned have no bodies, are ethereal, how can the lake of fire hurt them?

Again, this truth is probably based not on man's reasoning, but on God's.

Funny how man's wisdom always tries to exalt itself over the power of the Living God to preserve His words...He Himself says He jealously guards them, but people always want to think they know some "truth" deeper than that of His revealed in the Scriptures...

Nothing new under the sun, indeed.

"Rationalize" sounds a lot like rational lies.

You are right that the damned don't have physical bodies, but they do have spirit bodies. Spirit bodies can certainly experience the physical world. We know that they can see, hear and even taste, why not feel and smell?

Also, just because something is spiritual, doesn't mean that it doesn't have a physical proximity. Spirits wander the earth for example.

If God has determined that spiritual Hell is in a physical place, then the centre of the Earth would be a very good candidate.

If God has determined that spiritual Hell is not at the centre of the Earth, then I guess God gave the universe certain physical characteristics to helps us understand spiritual truths.

peace,
Simon

Yet sometimes all we have to do is think things through, and we can see the folly in Man's doctrine. Revealed truth may stand the test of time, but false doctrines come and go.

As for hell being the center of the Earth, it is scientifically known that eventually the rock there will cool and solidify. When this happens, the magnetic poles of the planet will cease to exist, and much of what we depend on for life on the surface of the planet will be no more. Not to mention the fact that the sun will expand at some point and gobble up the Earth, before exploding in a supernova.

Anyway, if the reports of hell are that the "fire is never quenched", then this is not going to be the case with the molten core of our planet. At least, not according to what science projects will happen!

Indeed tis true. And yet, those sin filled men were not divine, they were not perfect, they were not God.

They sat in judgment of that what they viewed as scrolls, letters, etc... and appointed themselves as rational men empowered with the right to appoint unto themselves the authority to designate what God's word would read as. Professing they were channeling the Holy Spirit in the process. And yet, if true, there would be no errors or contradictions within the final product. Such, is not the case. As Bible Scholars will attest.

Not to forget of course the influence of emperor Constantine and the Council of Nicea—the first general council of the Christian church convened in 325 A.D.

Or the vital importance of the Autographs, now lost to us.

Most Christians know all this.

Most Christians know that the Bible was compiled by the efforts of over 40 different authors from all walks of life. Which in itself speaks now to any Christian who examples prejudice in any form, in the name of their faith, toward any person.

When, if racism, etc... were Godly, 40 different authors from all walks of life would not be responsible for the Book those dwelling in the sin of antipathy and/or bigotry use to defend their satanic behavior, because the Holy Spirit would have exercised that discrimination first if it were of God. As those who in the flesh example it now using the excuse God's word compels them.

The canonization process undertaken to create what is todays Bible is not my presumption.

So attempting to insult me fails you. :amen:

It is historic fact.

Nothing new under the sun indeed. For some, ignorance is bliss. For others, knowledge is power.

Choose. And may God bless your steps.

The Biblical Keys to Canonization

The Old Testament Periods of Canonization

"...the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord. And He shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: Whom the heavens must receive until the times of the restitution of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began." (Acts 3:19-20)
