  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I read it cause honestly, I feel better when I read it. And, if you need some real motivation know that when you read it you will become more like Him and you will get to know Him better. Just find a time when you feel like you can sit down and read. Maybe right after school so you can relax before doing homework.
Also, if you feel like reading it is hard try the New Century Version. It's a lot more easier to read english.
Good luck,
Chilaha

Pick a time everyday, and read it on this time. If you can get into routine, that can be a great motivant.

But in the end its quality over quantity. So don't expect to really get into it every time you read it but make sure you come back everyday to read the bible on that certain timeslot.
Try to hear it speaking to you, let the words sink into you. Read it slowly, word by word and try and understand the context.
So if you have a study bible with lots of sidenotes, it can be really interesting.

You know for example, Jesus eating with tax collectors and sinners caused huge confusion to the people who were following him because in those times in israel, the people you ate with really affected your reputation and 'cleanness'
if you touched someone who was spiritually 'unclean' you were't allowed in the temple until a priest had clensed you

anyway, hope this helps!

Try and find a plan or daily devotions to follow. If you have an iPhone there is a free bible app that has downloadable devotions.Or you can get them off the Internet or subscribe to them as a book. Other bibles have them included, depending what version or edition you get.
Hope that helps :) I find reading before I go to sleep relaxes me and calms me down.

i am on a everyday reading plan this year and i have been trying my best to read it daily~ i read it when i can and when i have spare time. i have a bible cover so i can carry it places and keep it in my bag. if i get my homework done early, or i am on the bus (which time adds up) or i am cooking and waiting for something to boil or simmer, i open up to were i left off and i read. it is hard to motivate myself sometimes and i get distracted very easy, but i still try hard to read it everyday~

What a good question. When I was a Jehovahs Witness I wouldnt even pick it up. When I was disfellowshipped, I couldnt put it down. Its the most peculiar thing ever.

I guess for me, it has become like a drug. I need to read a small section every day. It has kind have become such a big part of my life that I have to do it. It is not pressured and I do not get withdrawal symptoms if I dont but I guess that why im motivated.

I also found that a big motivation to read the bible was to understand how it is set out. For example, once I knew what the gospel according to John was about and how long it was, it then motivated me to read it. As I go I would also make notes. I found that left me wondering what was coming next and what I enjoyed.

Hehe... thanks bud.

My fave book of the bible is John. One thing I did when I last read it was highlight every single time that it speaks about Jesus being the means of salvation including his illustrations such as referring to himself as bread of life.. I believe I noted 25 passages talking about this. If you want motivation to read the bible then here is my challenge to you:

Find all 25 of them and we shall see if they tally up with the ones I found. If you get 20 of them right, then... errrr.... well im sure God will be happy! :) Hehe!

How do you motivate your self to read the bible? I personaly have a hard time to motivate myself to read everyday. How do you do it?

I get upset when I can't read the bible. I read it at home, and at work. On my laptop I have e-sword installed. At home I even read the bible in the bathroom. I'm 55 years old, I've read the whole bible more times then I can count, in different translations. I never tire of it and always marvel and pick up some thing new or some thing that applies to my life.

What motivates me?

Honestly I don't know. I just love the Lord so much :)

Hi

If you have committed your life to Jesus, then you also want to know (And be reminded) what He can do in and through your life. :)

Hence, reading the bible reminds me of who I trust and who I believe - the all powerful God. Reading about the powerful things which He did through people like Elijah, Joshua, Ruth also encourages me to hold on to Him, in good times and bad times.

And everyday, circumstance, people and even the devil can influence you to turn your eyes away from God. Hence, this is another reason why we need to read the Word regularly. :sorry:

Read the books that appeal to you! I find that when I start reading a book that doesn't apply to me personally, I lose interest fast. Both 1 Timothy and 2 Timothy are great for teenagers, and the book of Daniel. Re-read your favorite chapters. There is always more to learn! My favorite book is Proverbs. Ephesians is a really good one too! Once you have re-read your favorites, start branching out to the other books little by little.
