As opposed to mini-series? My favourite TV show is "Whose Line is it Anyway?" because I have never encountered anything else that is quite as consistently hilarious. I can begin watching a show feeling down in the dumps and within three minutes - if it's a good game - I'm laughing my head off.

Incidentally, my favourite mini-series is the BBC's "Sherlock" - best adaptation of Holmes I've ever seen (I don't like the traditional drawling version and the Hollywood film a couple of years back was too sick for my taste). It even manages to be thoroughly amusing, which is the icing on the cake. I am much looking forward to the second series!

My favourite book by far is Markus Zusak's The Book Thief. It's one of those truly extraordinary books that manage to make me laugh with one statement and then send me into floods of tears with the very next sentence, and the tension just keeps building up and up and up. For example, Death (the perfect narrator for this story; it was a truly inspired idea) tells you straight out that he doesn't care for suspense when he tells you exactly how the story ends halfway through the book, but as you read you find yourself hoping that it won't happen, that maybe you've misunderstood, that perhaps he's mistaken... even though, at the same time, you know that it's inevitable, that you've understood perfectly, that there is no way in the world that he would ever be mistaken. When you've got an omniscient narrator who doesn't quite understand what he knows, yet has moments of brilliant and terrible insight... wow. It is one of those books that you may only find once in a lifetime. It broke my heart. And I have never read anything else quite like it, although the bittersweet lyrical style is reminiscent of some stories by my favourite author, Peter S. Beagle. (He's my favourite author because his stories probably take up half of my Top Ten List; I may adore The Book Thief more than any other book I've ever read, but I don't like anything else that Markus Zusak has written thus far.)

I've never heard of it, but with such a glowing review, if I get the opportunity, I might check it out.

My favorite book is Human Beware. I had checked it out from the library years ago and I could never find it in a store. I found it on Amazon eventually and got it really cheap I didn't enjoy the rest of the series as much, but it is a book about magic, sword fighting and dragons, which I love reading about and the ending was something I never saw coming.

You'll have to tell me whether you like The Book Thief if you end up reading it. Just don't quit before the end of the prologue - from reviews, some people seem to find it hard to get into. I didn't have any difficulty, but I love lyrical, slantways imagery so it was pretty much a perfect match for my taste.

I don't remember my first response to that question. When I was a child, as long as I had plenty of time to read I didn't really care what I might end up doing the rest of the time, and I couldn't imagine being any different as a adult. (As an adult, my views on this haven't altered all that much!) No ambition at all, me. I remember we had to write an essay about what we would like to do when we were adults - this was when I was about ten - and I had absolutely no idea so I simply picked a job at random. I also deliberately picked a job I had no interest whatsoever in doing, and I'm not quite sure why. Perhaps I didn't trust the teacher not to pour cold water on it, so I was making sure that if that did happen, I wouldn't have my feelings hurt.

I don't think so. I'd like to travel the Romantic Road and see all of Germany's old castles, but other than that... and even that is just a vague wish rather than something I'm actually aiming for.

No. I like to walk for short distances and I like to dance (alone, in my room, so that nobody else can see). But running... no. I even walked my school cross countrys. (Amazingly, I still managed to come in at about the middle... I guess it's because I walk fairly fast.)

Yes - I went on an English bus tour around Switzerland when I was there. It was run by a Christian organisation and was an awful lot of fun. I was the only one on the entire bus who spoke German, so guess who got appointed official translator! I saw things in Switzerland that I never knew even existed: the Trummelbachfaelle, for example - waterfalls made of glacier runoff, inside a mountain! Absolutely gorgeous, but you couldn't hear yourself think in there, let alone fully understand another person screaming in your ear from a distance of ten centimetres.

Returning via France was interesting, though. I speak absolutely no French, so when I bought something from a supermarket there to keep me going (the bus driver had gotten slightly lost), I ended up saying hello in Spanish and goodbye in Swiss German and watching the machine very carefully to keep track of what I needed to pay. (People had warned me against speaking English and/or German in France, leaving me without a proper language. The store assistant must have thought I was insane!)

I've also taken a bus once or twice here in NZ, to visit relatives. And of course I use the bus system to get around town!

You mean the men's bathroom? I have almost done it, but I have always realised before I opened the door. Luckily. I think I would have died of embarrassment had I actually made the error...

Not as far as I can recollect. I have, however, accidentally walked right off the edge of the top end of a set of stairs because I misjudged. Thankfully there was a handrail!
