Regarding the Precious Blood and germs, I would say that the possibility of passing a cold/flu/virus are miniscule. The alcohol in the wine makes it unlikely, and if the person distributing the cup understands what he's doing, the act of wiping the chalice with the purificator would remove most traces of any germ. I agree that, if your sick, or if your succeptible, you should not receive the Precious Blood. But I truly believe that 99% of people will not get sick from receiving our Lord and Savior.

For those who get distracted by the noise, I understand that, too. But if you focus on the altar, and what's going on there, you can minimize the effect the noise can have.

My answer, knowing that the altar is where heaven meets earth, all of it! Being in Jesus' presence is perfect.

Just a slight correction. The alcohol in wine is not enough to kill germs effectively.

It's a chemical from the skins that keeps wine safe. Red wine is generally better than white. That, in combination with the alcohol is quite powerfully anti-bacterial, especially in the presence of silver.

Mouths are also less dirty than people imagine compared to hands. If you would help yourself from a bowl of chips laid out, don't worry about the cup.

For us part of believing the bread and wine is really the body and blood of Jesus is also believing that you can't get sick form recieving the Eurachrist.
Precisely.

I havn't got sick yet, I would got up after any one however if I have a cold I will usually abstain from recieving, just because I know I won't get sick it doesn't mean that everyone believe the same.
Havent gotten sick yet either...and firmly believe i never will.
He is the Holy of Holies - He takes away our infirmities - He would never allow them to be passed on through Him.

Plus, in the Extraordinary Form, we receive our Lord only under one form and the argument about germs becomes moot.

Not getting the dislike of offering each other a sign of peace-? To each their own just curious why. Just don't like shaking strangers' hands or-?
I don't get it either. What do you do in the US that is so awful about it? It's actually one of my favourite parts of mass, and I don't have that many. :sorry:

The other one would be the sung credo, in latin (my church does all singing in latin, and most prayers are sung).

My least favourite is the homily, unless we go to the other church that has a better homilist (but a more modern mass without latin and without the awesome schola - so if we go to the other one, my least favourite is the poor singing!). The homilies in the big church are awful, and the absolute worst was on Christmas eve, ugh. It ruined the entire mass for me.

For me too. Some are so dry and boring...just seem to last an eternity (no wonder people sleep through them.) I think the priest reads them out of some book. And rarely does it have anything at all to do with the readings or the Gospel.

Wondering what he said that could be that bad.

Well, for starters, he didn't mention the readings at all. And those are fine readings at Christmas eve. Also a good opportunity to get non-churchgoers interested in Christ (the church was packed). He didn't mention Jesus' birth :doh:nor God becoming human, nor anything biblical.
Added to that, he wanted us to sympathize with those poor bankers and (local news) football ("soccer") club owners and other filthy rich people who are under attack during the economic crisis. :sigh: The wrong group of people to feel sorry for IMO - what about the poor, weak and needy?
And finally, he insulted people like me (and the pope!) who care deeply about the environment and animals, stating that we should only focus on PEOPLE, suggesting that it is sinful to put any effort in anything not directly aimed at human stuff, such as animal welfare.
I was so angry, I almost walked out.

And this is a very traditional and orthodox church.

My favorite part of the Mass is the whole Mass. My least favorite part is when a cell phone goes off. I'm not being judgmental of others because it happened to me and my wife at least a couple of different times when we didn't realize it was on. Those couple of incidents have made me more vigilant to make sure the cell phone is off or on vibrate before the Mass begins.

My least favorite part of mass was the homily a few years ago on:

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.
Proverbs 3:5

and the sermon that followed. It wasn't long after that when I was no longer religious.
Message me. :)

My favorite parts:

The opening prayers, for one. Our priest does not stand up from his chair and have one of the altar servers stand in front of him with the book---he goes up the altar, genuflects to the Blessed Sacrament in the tabernacle, then turns and reads them from the book, which is placed on a gold ambo in the center of the altar. Nice touch, that. :)

Then, of course, Holy Communion.

Least favorite parts:

The Sign of Peace (seems to be a fairly universal dislike); and one part which I despise is any time there's a baptism or something of that nature when the people are asked to applaud. Frankly, I just don't think that applause is correct during Holy Mass. I usually repsond by patting the knuckles of my left hand with the fingertips of my right hand, the way Dumbledore did in the first Harry Potter movie. :)
