When I watched this news report two days ago, it brought tears to my eyes. Sahar Gul is a 15 year old Afghan girl who was married off to a man who tried to force her to become a prostitute. When she refused, he and his family burned her, pulled out her hair, cut off her skin, and beat and starved her. Thanks be to God, the police rescued her.

I don't know if I can find adequate words to express revulsion and outrage that would even come close to describe this. What kind of a human being with even a shred of decency could even contemplate doing this to not only an innocent teenager but also his wife, or daughter in law for that matter.

Jesus treated women with love and respect, and God through Paul said that a man is the head of the household like Christ is the head of the church. Jesus provided for His apostles, talked with them, and died and rose again for them. A man who beats on his wife is a disgusting coward and is not following God. There are some so-called Christians who treat their wives with disgusting brutality and contempt... these creeps have no idea who Jesus is and they profane His holy name by claiming they follow Him. When they face Him on the Day of Judgement, if they had not repented they will find no mercy.

I have no idea what religion the husband and his family subscribe to, but any man from any religion- Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism... any religion or faith or no faith- who treats women this way, his behaviour is less than that of scum. I hope these people repent and find Christ. I don't wish the death penalty on them because I do not believe in it, but they should never leave prison or have contact with another innocent child ever again.

99% of afghans are sunni muslims and the taliban have a stronghold there too. Burning, pulling hair and other forms of abuse are quite common actually amongst girls given away in marriage. If this is the first case you've seen, here is another informative site: Islam: Making a True Difference in the World - One Body at a Time

Yeah I dont know why people convert to islam. It's very confusing. It seems so clear to me how wrong islam is.
Christians and other non-Muslims do this crap too. I believe people should not convert to Islam, they should also not convert to Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, paganism and any other belief system that denies the divinity and death on the cross of Jesus Christ. Any belief system that denies who Jesus is, is teaching falsehoods. Why most people choose to fixate on Islam though I don't know.

Wife beating is a huge problem among people in Pakistan and Afghanistan, I agree. It is also a huge problem in many parts of Latin and South America, where most people are Christians.

BTW were you aware of the fact that 1 in 4 American women face abuse from their partners or spouses? While that is nowhere near the stats in Afghanistan or Mexico, it is also a huge problem in your country. I don't know what the stats are in Canada but I also know it happens here.

I married at the age of sixteen. I stayed married to an abusive husband for thirty years. When my teenage son and I left home we lived in a spouse abuse shelter for six months. He and I lived together in a room the size of a closet. We stayed in an apartment that belonged to the shelter for two years. I have forgiven my husband and have told him so. He now visits me. My son now has a good relationship with his dad once again. Forgiveness brings peace and can turn around the life of the one forgiven.

Huldah, that is an amazing story. I am so sorry to hear what you and your son went through. I praise God you were able to get out of that situation, but then even more so that you and your son have been able to reconcile with him. By showing him forgiveness, you have been obedient to Christ. That would be something most people I think would find it very difficult to do.

I pray that God continues to lead you and use you as an example of His love and truth. I also pray that you will be safe and never again go through what you went through.

God bless you, sister.
