The History of God's Name

The derivation of Yahwah is from the ancient Semitic words HaYah and HaWah.
HaYah means “The Life or The Living.” HaWah means “The Beginning or The happening.” This is a partial list of words associated HaWah: Be, is, was, became, happened and appeared. Yahwah means "Life Began."
During the Babylonian captivity the Hebrew language spoken by the Jews was replaced by the Aramaic language of their Babylonian captors. Aramaic was closely related to Hebrew and, while sharing many vocabulary words in common, contained some words that sounded the same or similar but had other meanings.
In Aramaic, the Hebrew word for “blaspheme” used in Leviticus 24:16, “Anyone who blasphemes the name of YHWH must be put to death” began to be interpreted as “pronounce” rather than “blaspheme”. When the Jews began speaking Aramaic, this verse was (mis)understood to mean, “Anyone who pronounces the name of YHWH must be put to death.” Since then, observant Jews have maintained the custom of not pronouncing the name, but use Adonai (“my Lord”) instead. This also lead to some believing that God's name is not pronouncable.
After 300 B.C. Adonai became more frequently used than Yahwah. And the Books of Esther, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon do not use the name Yahwah.
Origen reported that when Jews read the name Yahwah, they would pronounce it Adonai, while non Jews would pronounce it Kurios.
Later on, Christian scribes replaced the Hebrew characters in the Greek Bible with Kurios. Scribes translating the Hebrew Bible showed that Yahwah should not be pronounced, but read as Adonai by substituting the Hebrew vowels of Adonai for those of Yahwah when writing the divine name. Later on, readers who did not know this history did not pronounce Yahwah; but neither did they pronounce Adonai, as the scribes intended. As a result the Middle Ages readers of the Hebrew Bible began pronouncing precisely what was written, and the mixture of consonants from Yahwah and vowels from Adonai, producing the pronunciation of Jehovah, a word that never existed for speakers of ancient Hebrew.

The word "Jehovah" comes from the fact that ancient Jewish texts used to put the vowels of the Name "Adonai" (the usual substitute for YHWH) with the consonants of YHWH to remind people not to pronounce YHWH as written. A sixteenth century German Christian scribe, while transliterating the Bible into Latin for the Pope, wrote the Name out as it appeared in his texts, with the consonants of YHWH and the vowels of Adonai, and came up with the word JeHoVah. In Hebrew the word Jahovah can be interpretated as "God's destructive evil desires."
The editors of the Brown-Driver-Briggs Lexicon write that the pronunciation "Jehovah" was unknown until 1520 when it was introduced by Galatinus; Pietro Colonna Galatino (1460–1530), also known as Petrus Galatinus.
Commentary in the Oxford English Dictionary concerning the letter J. Quote: "The J j types are not used in the Bible of 1611...."

The Encyclopedia Americana wrote the following about the letter J:
"The form of J was unknown in any alphabet until the 14th century."
The name Jehovah is the name of nobody, and the name of Jesus is the name of nobody, because those names did not exist before the 14th century.
Yahwah is the correct transliteration into English, and Yahshua is the correct transliteration into English, because the ancient Semitic language did not use the letter "E" for a vowel. Nor was there the letter J in any name. There is no sound or letter in the middle of those names, that was due to a scribes error.

It is asserted by Philo that only priests might pronounce God's holy name.
Josephus wrote that those who know God's Holy name were forbidden to reveal it.

Yahwah was and is the "Beginning of Life", and that is what His name means; "Life Began" or "Life's Beginning." Nothing or no one lived before Him. Scriptures define Him as a Living Being and not a conception or a perception. Our scriptures say that He is a Spirit and that He is Holy, and that is why He has the name title of Holy Spirit.

You know, I approach this issue like this... If God was so concerned with it, when His son walked the earth, He would have clarified, and made clear exactly how His Father's name should be pronounce.. instead He said "Our Father..." the relationship name, just like I am a sister in Yeshua, mom to my children, grandma to my grandchildren, etc... That is close when you get to call them by their relationship, not just Sir, Lord, Almighty, God, etc.. but Abba...

Yahwah's name was in the original New Testament scriptures

After killing Hebrew Christians, the Jews would take the New testament scripture written in Hebrew, and carefully cut the name of God out. Then they would place the divine name in a safe place to keep. Following that, they then would burn the remainder of the scrolls in a fire. Rabbi Yose who lived during the second century AD states that
, "One cuts out the reference to the Divine Name which are in them [the New Testament writings] and stores them away, and the rest burns." One of his characteristic sayings is, "He who proclaimed the coming of the Messiah,[John] and he who hated scholars [Yahshua] and his disciples; and that false prophet and those slanderers, will have no part in the future world." According to Wilhelm Bacher this was directed against the Hebrew Christians. And so it is an established fact then, that the disciples of Christ did in fact write the Holy Name of God into the original New Testament.

Whatever the reason was in the beginning really makes little difference at this point. No one knows for sure, positively, without a shadow of a doubt exactly how His name is pronounced. That is one reason it is not spoken nowadays.
No wait! I think Michael, an untrained and uneducated American separated by not only thousands of years of history but also by utter lack of Hebrew and Aramaic literacy, and absolutely no understanding of Jewish idioms and customs, has found the truth!

I say ignore the insane conspiracies he spouts about aliens, or governments, etc. He has the golden nugget of truth on this one thing for which he has no background, training, or formal education. Drop all of your conventional wisdom, your own merits of study, and blindly believe this guy despite the obvious mistakes in grammar, the obvious misunderstanding of Hebrew/Aramaic, and complete lack of historical context. Why anyone would even begin to doubt what Michael writes here is beyond me!

Simchat, I'm a little slow on the uptake sometimes. I can't find it, but that sure sounds like me that you quoted and I don't know you very well, so I gotta ask - Are you serious?

haha, no... it was 100% sarcasm.

I think we can easily dismiss someone who writes nonsense like this:
After killing Hebrew Christians, the Jews would take the New testament scripture written in Hebrew, and carefully cut the name of God out.
Especially when that person claims aliens control the government, etc. No real effort is put into the ramblings, and it shocks me that people STILL to this day attempt to have a serious conversation with him. His antisemitic diatribe coupled with insane unverified historical claims (such as the one I just quoted) should make everyone in this subforum seriously evaluate his sanity. Why people in all seriousness continue to engage is beyond me.

I don't speak for anyone but myself here, but we all make mistakes and have some quirky thoughts from one degree to another.
Like I said, I can be slow on the uptake or even dense in some areas so in MTAA's defense, I don't see him as anitsemetic. But then I've seen antisemtic pointers in someone's post that others didn't see. So, I'm sure I could miss some as well.
But for me, MTAA can be the odd one out in left field sometimes (but I've been there too on some things) but in the long run we're both rather harmless. And I would like to think that people think of me as nice and friendly even if I am out iin left field sometimes. I see MTAA the way I would like to be seen. Friendly, harmless, a little screwy, but on the same journey as everyone else.

I do agree that this is wrong thinking of many Christians. I'm happy to see it greatly diminished in the MJism group.
I have to admit that sometimes I'm guilty of such statements (i.e., they seem to say that but that's not what I intended to say). Sometimes people are just not very good with words and we get in too big a hurry to proofread well. And it's also hard to proof your own writing because you read what you intended to say....

There are varying degrees of his antisemitic rants, but one notable one is where he declares Jews as non-Jews, and believers as the "real Jews".

This is not just antisemitic, but dangerous theology imo.

Your point of view is worldly in regards to who a Jew is. I base my opinion upon what is written in scriptures. We go through this every year Simchat, have you been drinking again?
