2 Kings 2:1 And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.

Job 38:1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

Ezekiel 1:4 And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire.

Are examples of what God can do restricted to bible stories?

No:
Here are some facts -- you decide:

  • 30 October 1991: The Halloween Monster, a.k.a. The Perfect Storm, strikes the U.S. amid the "land-for-peace" Madrid peace talks; President Bush's ocean-side home destroyed.
  • 23 August 1992: President Bush moves Madrid talks to U.S. soil; that very day, Hurricane Andrew devastates southern Florida.
  • 16 January 1994: President Clinton meets with Syrian President Hafez Assad to discuss more "land for peace" arrangements; less than 24 hours later, a 6.9 earthquake pulverized southern California.
  • 1 September 1993: President Clinton announces a meeting with Arafat for the Oslo peace accords, to be held on 13 September; after a week of meandering in the Atlantic Ocean, Hurricane Emily hits North Carolina on that very day.
  • 21 January 1998: while waiting to meet with Arafat at the White House, President Clinton's sex scandal breaks out.
  • 27 September 1998: Arafat is meeting with the president in Washington; Hurricane Georges hits Alabama and stalls. The hurricane stalls until Arafat leaves and then it dissipates. Parts of Alabama declared a disaster area.
  • 17 October 1998: Arafat comes to the Wye Plantation meeting; incredible rains fall on Texas, which cause record flooding. Parts of Texas declared a disaster area.
  • 3 September 1999: Secretary of State Albright meets with Arafat in Israel; Hurricane Dennis comes ashore on this very day after weeks of changing course in the Atlantic Ocean.
  • 12-26 July 2000: Arafat at the Camp David meetings. Powerful droughts throughout the country. Forest fires explode in West into uncontrollable fires. By the end of August, 7 million acres are burnt.
  • 9 November 2000, two days after the presidential election: Arafat meets with President Clinton at the White House to try and salvage the peace process; worst election crisis in over 100 years occurs.

I decided it was the weather.
Was it the weather that turned the Sea of Galilee to ice so Jesus could walk on water?

I have a feeling you guys would blame a lot of stuff on the weather.

Thus confirming what I've always said about you guys, should God actually speak audibly from Heaven:

John 12:29 The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.

Can you spot the scientists in the above passage?

Did that event actually happen?

No. I can spot some Jews arguing over religion though.

Have there been any examples of God sending a drought/earthquake/tornado where nature couldn't?

2 Kings 2:1 And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.

Job 38:1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

So, short answer is "no."

Decide what? By these examples, you are portraying a deity that is restricted to doing what nature is capable of.

Do we have examples of where God caused a hurricane outside of hurricane season?

Do we have examples of where God caused an earthquake where there are no faults in the Earth's crust?

So it would appear.

1. You asked me what God can do -- I showed you a list of what God can do.

2. God is not restricted to what nature is capable of. He can do everything on that list, even if nature says otherwise.

Jonah was swallowed by a whale. So what? A whale can swallow anyone.

But to swallow Jonah and take him on a submarine ride to his destination is a miracle.

I'd like to know why my insurance goes up so much. I live in the New Madrid fault zone, and have an earthquake rider on my homeowner's policy. We have little tremors now and then, but I'm unaware of any major increase in seismic activity. Yet over the last 10 years, that premium has gone up a lot more than the other coverage. Which tells me there's something other than just general inflation and increased building costs.

No, I asked "Have there been any examples of God sending a drought/earthquake/tornado where nature couldn't?" and you provided a list that required no deity for explanation. Now, if that is your definitive list, then your deity appears to be indistinguishable from typical naturalistic forces. Nothing extraordinary.
2. God is not restricted to what nature is capable of. He can do everything on that list, even if nature says otherwise.
That was my point. Where on that list did 'nature say otherwise'?
Jonah was swallowed by a whale. So what? A whale can swallow anyone.

But to swallow Jonah and take him on a submarine ride to his destination is a miracle.
Or it was just a bible story. Allegory. Metaphor.

It could be they've been paying out more money for earthquakes and are trying to make up for the payouts.

Or they are trying to build a larger buffer in case they have to pay out.

Not that I know of.

What would that matter?

What's the difference in God sending a tornado across Tornado Alley, and God sending a tornado across the North Pole?

Either way, God sent it.

I thought you said nature created some. Now all are sent by God?

My theory (unsubstantiated) is the severe drought in the state (some places as much as 18 inches of rain short this year) has dried up the soil in places near the fault lines.

The focus of the earthquake was about 3 miles down. Unlikely that the drought triggered the quake. Having said that, water can and does act as a lubricant along fault lines so perhaps a better (though highly unlikely) reason would be if the area were suddenly 'relubricated' with a lot of water that was able to reach the depths necessary to trigger this event.
