Why is it people praise god when prayers are answered, but are not angry when things like natural disasters happen. Why does god not protect the innocent. Like Japan when they were nuked or when tidal waves strike? Why doesn't he just stop them from happening. I mean he has the power to do so. He has the Love to protect us. Its a contradiction for god not to help.

Part about Christianity is that God is always right. So he can't be blamed when things go bad. Remember your best friend's abusive stepfather? It's kinda like that.

No, sorry what are you on about?

So if god is always right, then he allows people to suffer throughout the world. If this is so does he really love us? How can he be so powerful yet so unwilling?

It can seem like a contradiction to outsiders. Being able to see God's hand in every situation whether good or bad comes due to that christian's faith and in response to God's love for us.
Romans 8: 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?
Why does god not protect the innocent.
I do not know that because I cannot see things as God can. What I do know though is that some wonderful things only occur due to disasters, personal tragedies and/or difficulties. e.g. after Black Saturday bushfires (Victoria, Australia) we saw on quite a few news reports people in those communities grew very close and supported each other wonderfully. That probably would never have happened otherwise.

No, it is amazing that God helps us as much as he does, even to those who refuse to believe in Him and mock Him at every opportunity. He is incredibly merciful to all of us. Think of all these reports that doctors, firemen, police "just happen" to be there in times of crisis. It takes an incredible amount of faith to dismiss them all as mere chance.

Matthew 5: 45 For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. Matthew 5:43-48

I consider our life on Earth to be an education. We are here to learn how to become Christlike, and there is no gain without pain. So Christians expect hard times, and do not curse God when catastrophe strikes.

But when we experience a blessing, it feels like a bonus. Like attending school and expecting the same old maths and spelling exercises, but instead being given a fun day of excursion instead.

Okay, I have to say something about this.

"Wonderful things"? Yeah, nothing like losing a family member to a hurricane or flood. But atleast it brought people together eh?

I've known several people who's lives have een ruined by things like this. They've lost homes, friends, family, and maybe even themselves.

Natural Disasters prove to me that God does not interfere with our world that much, if at all. I find it funny how people who survive disasters or war say God "saved" them.

Guess he didn't care too much about the other hundreds of innocent people who perished terribly...

Doesn't make sense.

It doesn't make sense according to human reason, but to God's common sense it does. A four dimensional cube doesn't make sense to me, let alone God's purpose in our creation, redemption, and sanctification. But through faith we can bypass explanations too subtle for our ape minds to grasp, and have a relationship with the Divine.

Hm, how often has that own question popped up in my life on one occasion or another? Why does God allow bad things to happen? If he's so powerful, why can't he do something about it?
So let's think of it this way, if there was no 'bad' in this world would be need God? How would we know what 'good' is? The two thoughts go hand in hand, good and evil, one without the other doesn't make sense because each determines the other. Inform me when I start confusing both of us.
God's not here to win our approval based on our standards. In the bible God ordered his children to murder and destroy, but by doing so he provided for them. God's standards are nothing like a human beings. God parted the Red Sea for Moses and the Hebrews, but he devastated the Egyptian empire. He killed his own son for us, he requested that Abraham do the same at one point in history.
It's my belief and I've heard others express this as well, that these 'bad' things are challenges created to draw us closer to him. Imagine if nothing every went wrong and people never suffered, how void and unhappy a life, with nothing to do, nothing to learn.
Many people get angry with God; people who've lost loved ones, people who've been injured, people who've lost anything at all. To some people God is the scapegoat, the mysterious all powerful being that can be blamed because he doesn't deny it. When people are hurting they try to find an outlet, some find that in God.
As to your comment about how it's a contradiction for God not to help, by letting these things happen God is helping us; helping us to learn, helping us to pull together and understand humility, service and the power of giving. Ever notice how everyone pulls together after a disaster? He's helping us realize our potential, helping us understand challenge and success. This is love, just as a good parent loves their child with strict rules to guide them into a good life, God is simply here to guide his children, teaching us and watching over us as we make the choice ourselves.
If you have any questions on any of this, don't hesitate to ask, it's how we all learn. God bless.

We have recently had floods here in Brisbane, the river flooded much of the city in those area. It is just a natural event every so many years. If you live by the river you have to expect that something could happen some time. Not becasue God is judging sinners or anything, I mean are there more sinners near the water? This applies to Japan people are living in places that a disaster prone. Due to the volcanic activity around and on that Island. You can't blame God for those things, they are just unfortunately a part of life.

Why does God not stop it happening? Well he could, I mean he said in the bible if you have faith you could say to a mountain be picked up and cast into the sea and it would obey you. Meaning in prayer nothing is impossible for God. But we need to be praying, maybe there are just not enough prayers being offered on behalf of those in positions of need.

I know God answers pray for some examples of answered pray see my website which has recorded some of the miracles God has performed through my life. Go to Home it should show prayers are answered. Then I guess we should start praying that God protects people in dangerous situations.

In the Bible it says "All things work together for good, for those who love God and are called according to his good will and purpose"

When bad things have happened in my life, it is this verse that comes to mind. When I cry, God cries, when Im angry, God is angry. He says "Vengeance is mine". Even when bad stuff happens I have learned, through some very painful experiences, that he is in control, and I have to let it go and trust that he will sort it out.

Maybe this is how the world does things, but is it not the general consensus in Christianity.

Most of us believe that the Lord Gives and the Lord takes away. We believe whether He Gives or He takes Blessed be the name of the Lord.

If there is a contradiction it is in the way the world see God.

You asked a very good question here and I will try to answer it the best way I can.

Firstly, not all Christians subscribe to idea of god being completely and total sovereign, although I do which is the biblical position. However because of the sin which entered during the fall, creation has been frustrated from realizing it's full potential because of sin. Paul describes this in Romans 8:18-23.

Also there is the story of Jesus healing a man blind from birth in John 9:1-5, where Jesus replied to a question wheter the man's blindness was a punishment for his or his parent's sins. Jesus answered no, rather that man was blind so that god be glorified.

we tend to forget that we live in a fallen state.
we forget that the original sin from Adam and Eve caused us to fall and live in this state of life. in Paradise there was no pain, death or disaster.

our fallen state is full of pain, death and disasters.

innocent people who get abused, people that are killed, people that remain handicapped or are born with disabilities... all these are only the consequence of our fallen state, which we tend to forget.

we are not in Paradise guys. we live in a world where satan is the king, because back then... we followed his prompt.
it is very unfortunate, but it is true.

saying "why didn't God stop this", "why did God allow this" only show that we are very narrow minded.
we should open up and view the whole picture.

People are saying that G-d gave man dominion, which means it is NOT a contradiction for G-d not to ... do what He gave us the power to do.

The key is for us to employ our God given dominion in concert with His will!
