Maybe some will admit that there's nothing wrong with praying for the dead. But I'm not one of them.

I believe God has created different denominations, is because we all have something different to learn for God's greater purpose. When it is all and done with, there will be no winning team. I seriously doubt he is going to say Baptist you win, come on up or Methodist that they won. It's a personal relationship.
Why do people who believe in Jesus Christ argue over petty stuff.
Why don't you forgive the Catholics for their History? The gospel isn't petty and that is what at least a part of this argument is about. Billy Graham, Albert Mohler and etc have done a great deal to hurt Christianity by teaming up with Catholics. The official Catholic doctrine is that faith alone (Sola Fide) is not sufficient for salvation. That is a different gospel than that of the Baptist and the Protestant. People died by the millions by the hands of Roman Catholics because of these doctrines to just have people nowadays act like there is no real difference and that all the arguments are just petty. What a shame.
Why don't you forgive the Catholics for their History?
give us some of those clear teachings then.....because what I gave you was THE BIBLE.....I thought us Baptists believed in Sola Scriptura? You are taking a passage that, with a stretch of the imagination, could talk about purgatory. However, with all the clear teaching that excludes such a notion, you ate left grasping at straws.
How is that idea cheapening what Christ did? He saved us from sin, and from eternal punishment.....but you will not find in the Bible anywhere that Jesus saved us from temporal punishment, or from the consequences of the small sins we commit on a day to day basis.......Jesus died on the Cross to atone for sin. To say that there are still sins to be punished for cheapens what He did. Hence, a false gospel.

How is it a false Gospel? The message is still that Jesus saves......
which post? I have been away for a couple days.....I already quoted for you a text that excludes purgatory. Comment on tgat and then we will talk.

progmonk said:Hammster show me your faith without works? I think that all it is is mental ascension to the idea of God. How do you respond to the glory of God? Is it not through good works? Is not the act of accepting what Christ did on the Cross a work as well?
By "getting through" do you mean changing minds? I'm still waiting to find out how one avoids purgatory.
Basil the Great said:Hammster - If I understand RCC teaching correctly and I usually do, the RCC teaches that saints can avoid Purgatory by living holy lives. (Not that they live perfect lives though mind you.) The implication would seem to be that very few Christians avoid Purgatory, but the RCC is not specific on the subject to my knowledge.
