I don't think that's what Paul was getting at in Roman's at all, rather he was saying that homosexuality is "unnatural" merely because biologically a man is designed to engage with a women in sexual activity. Not that it's somehow "beyond our natural sinful tendencies".

I've grown up around a gay couple, and I love these guys. They've told me they're active members of a church. Now I don't necessarily agree that their lifestyle can be reconciled with Scripture, but I don't think that makes them a lost cause either.

I heard a pastor say no. Because romans one calls homosexuality unnatural, meaning it's such a bad sin it isn't even in the sin nature. God also gave the homosexuals over to their desires, meaning he's given up on them completely.
Paul's audience in Romans 1 were heterosexuals. Gay people have nothing to "exchange" to become gay. (Paul was also talking about pagan prositution, which does not apply to modern day society).

And no, homosexuality is not the unpardonable sin. That pastor is 100% wrong.

How in the world do you figure Romans 1 does not apply to modern day society??? Paul establishes doctrine all throughout Romans.

Remember what the prophet Isaiah warned..Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.

Romans 1 is about the need for righteousness and is directly against homosexuality... Those who with vile affections dishonor Him, will be given up eventually to dishonor themselves...It does not mean we should not evangelize to them, but dude it goes against all forms of God's word to suggest there is no exchange of light for darkness.

A truly repentant homosexual can be saved. But a homosexual must renounce this lifestyle as sin and turn to the Lord for forgiveness and help in overcoming the perversion. A person who says they have been saved but does not agree that homosexuality is a sin has not met the true holy God of the universe who declared that those who practice such sin will not inherit HIS kingdom.

"Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. " (1 Cor. 6:9-11)

Although this verse makes clear that a unrepentant homosexual is not, nor can be saved (while remaining unrepentant). Paul also makes clear the fact that some of those who he was writing this to WERE at one time homosexual and had been saved (sanctified, justified and washed) by Jesus Christ. They can be saved.

I think the preacher has a fair argument that homosexuals cannot be saved.

Romans 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in [their] knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

In the secular Random House dictionary, this definition is provided for Reprobate "a person rejected by god and beyond hope of salvation." This definition seems consistent with the multiple occurrences of the underlying Greek word in scripture.

Look at Romans 1:28. God, Himself, gave them over to a reprobate might. The NLT uses the phrase "God, he abandoned them..." How can anyone whom God has rejected be saved?

A second argument that homosexuals cannot be saved comes from Liberals. Liberals claim that homosexuals cannot change.

There's no biological reason why someone is a homosexual. There's no "gay gene". There's no scientific reason why they can't be reconditioned and be made no longer homosexual. Attraction, and really any physiological response, is very malleable.

If homosexuals cannot change, and there is no scientific explanation for it, then there must be a spiritual explanation for it. If they cannot change then they cannot be saved. Christians are new men in Christ, not the same old man. 1 Corinthians 6:9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals...

What does Scripture say?
Does it say that fornication is the unpardonable sin?

How does the unpardonable sin manifest itself? And, how does God respond to that sin? Maybe by God turning the sinner over to a reprobate mind.

The first 3 chapters in Romans was a judgement of all flesh, all who were unsaved. Paul was showing jew, or gentile, all knew better, he was contextually showing how all needed a saviour, and no one was good, jew, gentile, gay, killer, u name it. But off course gay people can be saved, so was murderer Saul, who was killing Christians.

Paul also saw his wretched man, Rom 7:24 as a saved person. Excuse? Yes.

If a gay person gets saved, he can bring his issues to God, just like a drinker, or a person prone to violence, or anything else from the flesh.

yes and no

Yes in the same way that ANY sinner can be saved! All sex (whether thought out, or acted out) outside of marriage (which can ONLY be between a man and a woman) is sin. Sin that Christ had to die for. Sin that God is infinitely wrathful against. That INCLUDES heterosexuality outside of marriage. So, if by homosexuality you mean impulses and temptation to sin by having any sex (whether thought out or acted out) outside of marriage as defined by one man and one woman, then absolutely a person who is 'homosexual' can be saved. If I were to deny that a homosexual by that definition could be saved, then I would also have to deny that I MYSELF could be saved because I too have impulses and temptation to have sex (whether thought out or acted out) outside of marriage.

No in the same way that any person who continues to live in unrepentant sin cannot be saved. They cannot be saved, because they will not be saved. A lifestyle of unrepentant sin is evidence that a person has never truly accepted Christ or believed in Him. A person who lives a lifestyle of sex outside of God's plan for marriage will not be saved, whether homosexual or heterosexual. Both homosexual and heterosexual sex outside of marriage are sins that Christ died for and must be repented from. If a person does not repent from either of these it is evidence and proof that they have never come to know Christ.

Not even Romans condemns homosexuality. Homosexuality is a blanket expression that covers an entire lifestyle. Romans only addresses one particular behavior we associate with that lifestyle (men sexing men). Even when Paul talks of women, he doesn't specify that he is talking about women sexing women, but simply that they have exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones, not ever specifying exactly what he means by that.

So, while there is a behavior mentioned here that is sinful, and an implication of others, one has to operate in a touch of creativity to apply it as a blanket statement against the modern homosexual. I, personally, am not ready to take such liberties with the truth.

Paul didn't say those who had sex (blanket statement) would not inherit the Kingdom of God but the sexually immoral and homosexuals (he dealt in specifics). So who's taking liberties with THE truth?

I would say YOU are and I believe Paul would as well.

Certainly, homosexuals can be saved. If they remain celibate, they are not sinning. If a person is a homosexual, that is how the person is. They don't have a choice about their sexual orientation, but they have a choice about what they choose to do about it. As a friend of mine told me, he didn't choose to be homosexual, and that nobody would choose it.

It's really not that different about the choice that a single heterosexual has to make. You are not sinning until you have sexual relations with someone outside of marriage. As long as a homosexual remains celibate, they are not sinning, so they can be saved. It is certainly possible for a homosexual to remain celibate, just as it is possible to be heterosexual and celibate.
