What did Paul tell the Philippian jailor when he asked Paul "What must I do to be saved"? Did he tell him to "go through the school master (which is the OT law, BTW) first"?You have to go through the school master first.. to understand what "believing on the name of the Son of God means" it is more than "I know His name is Jesus"..
Acts 28:23
And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.
Acts 16:27 And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.
Acts 16:28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.
Acts 16:29Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,
Acts 16:30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
Acts 16:31And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Acts 16:32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
Acts 16:33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
Acts 16:34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.
The jailor was ready to commit suicide...he asked Paul and Silas what he needed to do to be saved. Paul and Silas answered and then preached the word of the Lord to him and his household. They believed the word of the Lord which Paul and Silas preached, they were baptized, and rejoiced "believing in God with all his house."
My eternal salvation is based on my trusting Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross of Calvary for my sin. Jesus Christ didn't come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. (Matthew 9:11-13)
