Some one might ask, why Christians still need this law (Ten Cs) meanwhile the Spirit will works in them to will and to do (Phil. 2:13) and why they still need a law that reveals sin, if the Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment (John 16:7-11)? Can we not put away the law and depend on His work alone?
To answer this question we might first know the task of the Holy Spirit.
In the New Covenant God made with man, the task of the Holy Spirit is:
1. to write the law in mans heart
2. to put it in their minds
Jesus gave the task of the Holy Spirit as:
1. to convict the world of sin, because they do not believe in Me
2. to convict the world of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more
3. to convict the word of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
We see that the tasks of the Holy Spirit given by Jesus are an additional to His primary task written in the New Covenant of God. All goes along together, no overruling here.
And this is the great outline of the work of the Spirit: 12 I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. 15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you. John 16:12-15.
Do we then nullify the law of God; the law contains God's great principle of love, the law that reveals sin and the standard of righteousness, because we have the Holy Spirit now, only because we believe the law is too holy, too good, too righteous for us and that we could never fulfill its demands?? No, that is Satan lie, his hoax among Christianity. Is this words written in the Scripture for nothing?
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13.
Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Phil. 3:12-14.
6 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. 27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified. 1 Cor. 9:26.
