We're finally getting a full time priest!!! Sometimes in early June!:clap::clap:
(we've had 'full time' priests before but they've been retired Navy chaplains) and the plan is to purchase land for our own church in the next two years or so!

Glory to God! We just finished our new church addition which opened on Palm Sunday. It truly is a miracle that we managed to complete it so quickly.

Congrats on getting a full time priest!

We have recently finished a new addition to our old (technichally "temporary") church, and we have steel going up as we speak for our new Bynzantine church. Very exciting times...and relentless fundraising. It is being built directly over the site of the donated house that was the very first temporary altar for our church.

I'm that way every Pascha. The first one was like a sensory overload.

That's exactly how I felt! I really had trouble taking it all in. To make things worse (or better, depends on your perspective), I sat on the opposite side than I usually sit, so that in of itself made the experience seem very, very different from normal liturgy.

One thing I thought was so cool is that when you come back into the church, after the 'gates of hades' (the entrance doors) had been opened, the candle holders in front of the icons on the iconostasis were swinging back and forth, as if Christ burst open the tomb.

I'm absolutely whacked - I ache in places I didn't know existed :D

I've spent a week existing on black coffee and a 2 toasted Ciabattas with grilled veggies and a stack of sweetmeal biccies as it was all I could eat thanks to the hours in Church

Sunday was a veritable banquet and the alcohol was flowing freely :D and it went on and on and on .

We didn't have Paschal Vespers :( Father was too tired and one Priest had already flown back to Rome [ his flight was at 0700 on Sunday !! ]

We didn't have Jerusalem Matins in Church either - but 3 of us with the Priest from Rome did have our own Jerusalem Matins in the house where my GodPapa was staying - absolutely fantastic !!

I'm so glad I went and I'll do it next year !!

Oh... That must have been an exhausting time :( Sorry to hear you are tired ... I usually have the hardest time on Holy Friday. The candles in combination with the fast make it impossible for me to stay IN the Church proper... I have to go in the Narthex and wait there... or outside as my oxygene level falls... :(

I learned a new tradition this Pascha, it seems that several people bring 'lanterns' with them to Pascha and light them with their candle (which was lit from the Paschal flame) and take this flame home and keep it going for some time with candles. From what I heard, this is especially a Greek tradition, as I was also told that the Greeks really like their candles also! :)
