...dissident groups

At CatholicVote.org, Thomas Peters recently wrote about the effort by homosexual billionaires to change the Roman Catholic Church’s position on homosexuality by funding dissident groups within the church. Peters catalogs funding to the tune of almost $600,000 to various Catholic groups through something called the Arcus Foundation.

After reading Peters’ article, I went to the Arcus website and discovered that it isn’t just Roman Catholic groups this foundation is funding. Money is also going to many dissident groups in mainline Protestant denominations.

Here are some of the grants listed for 2010 alone:
  • Central United Methodist Church (Detroit): $50,000 for The Reconciling Project, “a reconciling education and advocacy initiative to positively transform attitudes and beliefs about LGBT [Lesbian-Gay-Bisexual-Transgendered] people among United Methodist congregants and pastors in Southeastern Michigan.”
  • Christian Community: $300,000 (over two years) “to increase support for and advocacy on behalf of LGBT people of faith in mainline Protestant congregations across the U.S.”
  • Emory University (United Methodist affiliated): $100,000 (over two years) for continued support for Religion Dispatches, “a progressive online magazine dedicated to analysis and critique of the role of religion in public culture, with a focus on LGBT justice issues.”
  • Intersections International: $100,000 for the Believe Out Loud campaign, “which seeks to move moderate people of faith to publicly advocate for LGBT inclusion within their mainline Protestant faith communities.” (The Reconciling Ministries Network in the United Methodist Church is integrally involved with the Believe Out Loud campaign.)
  • Lutherans Concerned: $90,000 for “two convenings to advance the full inclusion of LGBT people of faith by convening pro-LGBT denominational leaders from the Episcopal Church USA, the United Methodist Church, the Evangelical Lutherans of America, the Presbyterian Church (USA), and the United Church of Christ, and by convening nationally recognized pro-LGBT Lutheran theologians.”
  • Methodist Federation for Social Action: $93,120 “to advance the full inclusion of LGBT people of faith within the United Methodist Church through a coalition of progressive justice organizations working within the UMC.” (MFSA used these funds to hire a coordinator for the Common Witness Coalition, an alliance of progressive groups that will press the UM 2012 General Conference to vote for “full inclusion of all people in UMC membership and leadership”—PDF.)
In 2009, the Arcus awarded the Reconciling Ministries Network (RMN) in the UMC $300,000 (over two years) to support “a comprehensive strategy to advance LGBT inclusion within the United Methodist Church that includes passage and implementation of pro-LGBT denominational policy regarding Church membership, ordination and same-gender [sic] marriage.” (In 2007, Arcus awarded RMN $100,000.)

Remember, that in their point of view, they are trying to make churches better, by making them more open and responsive to human needs.

LGBT's who don't love God and long for a closer relationship with Him don't even care enough to try to work for reform within Catholic and mainstream Protestant churches (I used the word "reform" because I think that is how they perceive it.)

Their aim is not to bring the churches down. Their aim is not to destroy the churches.

In their view, they are trying to make the churches better.

And, in that spirit, articles about how homosexuals are trying to infiltrate and destroy churches are not productive. They're not healing.

If I were gay (and I'm not) I think it would be easier to go to the UCC or Episcopal Churches rather than fight to retain membership in a church where I was unwelcome. There is a reason why the ones who fight choose to travel that lonely, painful road--and it is because they love the churches of their childhood so much.

fantine,

it is the quality not the quantity

they know the difference between right and wrong and this is not about seeking a relationship with God but gaining social acceptance of their sinful lifestyle

why is that gay peoples were in the closest and now they come out and throw it in ryour face

it is because as society goes down the tubes they can come out into the darkness, wheras before they would not come out into the light

and they say 'homophobe' like that is a bad thing
It is a bad thing.

Homophobia is a range of negative attitudes and feelings towards lesbian, gay, bisexual, and in some cases transgender and intersex people and behaviour. Definitions refer variably to antipathy, contempt, prejudice, aversion, and irrational fear.[1][2][3] Homophobia is observable in critical and hostile behavior such as discrimination[1][2] and violence on the basis of a perceived non-heterosexual orientation

To walk the walk as the Church teaches:

2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

stop trying to hijack my religion
Thank God my religion is NOT homophobic.

I don't really see any dissident catholic groups on the site. I typed 'catholic' in the search and nothing came up either.

When people are paying money to try to get people to accept sin, then you know theres a Simon Magnus in the house, lol.

.

But they are infiltrating Churches. Look at what they did to the Anglican church. It has been absolutely torn down in scandal and schism because of homosexual lobbies. And suing private christian organizations too isn't really helping them.

Your not gonna get much sympathy being antagonistic the way many gay lobbies are with desecrating communion hosts, to portraying blasphemous mocking pictures of the last supper.

Hopefully this isn't a spoiler for anyone, but kingdom of this world hates the truth, hates Jesus Christ and hates the Church and the people who belong to the kingdom of this world will always try to bring down the Church and befoul it with their wickedness.

The reason they hate Jesus and his Church is because He brings conviction of sin and they love their sin. The define themselves by their sins. To them victory is miring the Church in their sins because then there is nothing to convict them and point out their wickedness.

They can only 'love' Jesus and 'love' the Church when both are remade in the image of their sins.

Though the thread is about homosexuals, I'm not speaking specifically about them. The people who belong to the kingdom of this world have always tried to mire the Church in comprimise and remake Jesus in their image. To a certain degree whatever the flavor of today is doesn't really matter all that much (and really there are many different groups with their own agendas trying to do the same thing).

The philosophy of our day tells us that it is evil and wrong to think in terms of us and them. Yet Jesus did. Drawing lines is unpopular because drawing lines always puts some people inside and other outside the lines. Yet Jesus drew very clear, and definite lines. If He were to be here, in our society today, Jesus would be hated and reviled just as he was 2000 years ago. Precisely because he makes no comprimise. A lot of people think that the religious leaders of that time hated Jesus because he showed mercy and grace to sinners and outcasts. They may have been scandalized by that, but the real reason they hated him is the same reason the world always hates him... because he uncomprimisingly confronted and convicted them of their sins and their wicked hearts. The truth, of course, is that Jesus is here in our society today, and our society does hate him.. because the Church is the fullness of Jesus Christ, his body is his manifestation in the world.

i guess i am not a homphobe then because that definition states "irrational fear'- as the OP points out there are gay organizations attempting to pollute the Church teaching that sex outside marriage is objectively sinful

note the Church does not condemn all discrimination- it states 'unjust discrimination'

you seem to forget that your organization- the knights of columbus threw 8 million dollars into the fight against gay marriage instead of using the money to help poor widows and orphans so that now gay people in the bay area spit on knights and demand businesses throw knights and their tootsie rolls off their property

I figured you just weren't thinking about what the term homophobe actually meant when you implied you didn't see anything wrong with it. I can understand that, but its not really the truth as you see from the definition. Its important to keep an accurate focus on the truth of this subject or we wind up no different than the confused. Its the only way to make a difference.

The OP is nothing new. Keeping the teaching of the Church pure is the real truth. No presumed truth will do. ;) Thanks for the support of the KofC. I will be there today for the last fish fry of Lent with two other families. Too bad you couldn't join us.

Wow, did you just imply there was a "Just" form of discrimination?

God tells us to discern between good and evil, and to not yoke ourselves with evil. He doesn't tell us to determine right and wrong based on what people want it to be, or if their feelings are hurt because they love evil more than God.

There is a world of a difference between recognising evil, and treating someone differently because of it.

Would you discriminate against someone who is having impure thoughts, who told a lie, who maybe got angry last week at the street barbecue.

All of these thing's are sin's and evil, but we still are called to love and treat these people as brothers as equals

Why then if someone is Gay, is it fine to discriminate against them in our dealings, why is it ok not to love them, to treat them as un-equals?

I've tried responding several times now, but your ideas are totally incomprehensible to me. The whole idea that we need to change our morality because it offends the disordered passions of people makes zero sense. The idea that it is unjust discrimination to hold to the truth and what is right. Jesus never said to enslave ourselves to the whimsy of evil. That is the gospel of political correctness, not Jesus.

I think you are also confusing two things: Refusing to accept evil as normal as "discrimination," and killing and fighting people as "discrimination." They are completely different things.

We don't discriminate against any of these persons you mention but against sinful actions. See the difference?

We must hate sin because God hates sin. We must love everyone, because God loves everyone.

Just discrimination would be to hate the sin, not be prejudiced against the sinner.

Truth is just, prejudice is not. God wishes everyone to hear the truth because God loves us that much.
