Okay, this is my first thread here so please correct me if I've posted it in the wrong place.

I am trying to get close to God again, and I've been reading a lot about revelations and the end times lately.

I do believe they aren't too far off, but I need help in understanding whether the rapture will come before or after the Great Tribulation. My kind of understanding right now is that it will be after...

But my actual question relating to this is that...well, if we enter the Great Tribulation, how are we to prepare ourselves to become martyrs?

I love God and I want my faith to be stronger...I can be such an idiotic human sometimes...and I want to have faith that my relationship with the Lord will hold me through someone threatening to kill me, but I am also scared to death that my idiotic human self is going to turn me the wrong way at that time.

I REALLY do not want to be one of the ones who loses their faith in the end.

How can I prepare myself for all the persecution, and suffering, and starvation, and the prospect of being a martyr when those times come?

hey,
I know exactly where you are coming from! i do truly believe that the rapture is gonna happen after the Great tribulation.oh and God's chosen ones wont be caught up in the rapture we have to stay on earth thru the trials to win souls for the kingdom! yeah im one of the CHOSEN! i started preparing myself by asking god to lead me and guide me! right now im living in an apartment with my two little ones (ages: 1 and 4). and i know the lord showed me that im not gonna be here for long . we gonna have to pack up our necesesities and just go wherever god leads me! it does seems scary but we have to remember that God is gonna take care of us. but i do feel that something is gonna happen soon maybe with the economy crashing or something to where like the Bible says a loaf of bread is gonna cost a day's wage! so for right now im preparing by stocking up on a WHOLE lot of can goods and non perishable items because its gonna become a point where there wont be electricity or anything! and im about to get used to cooking on my Grill! but when things become worst and the persecution of Christians come, alot of us are going to be on the run! i have gotten message from God that im gonna stay til almost the end! i dont know if my kids will be killed with or without me but i know they are gonna get killed and i am too! im gonna be a Martyr but some folks will be an overcomer. a martyr is just below the overcomer. these two positions are VERY high callings. the overcomers will be the LAST ones left on earth to do the will of god. so the overcomers are going thru rough times NOW. thats how god is preparing them! so god is preparing me now by getting out my tears now so when the day do come i will be ready!!! for i know my kids will be with our JESUS! i pray i CAN stay strong thru the process too! but god is truly preparing me now. Hes showing me howto walk by faith. i had to quit my job and im living by faith right now but i do know its gonna get worst! but so far he has been taking care of me! its so funny because i was just thinking about that and i get on here and come across your thread! praise God. i pray all the times for strength for the days to come! you be bless and keep the faith for our reward is in the KINGDOM of heaven! oh just think of it as the world has nothing for you! and they cant kill you, not your spirit. to die is to gain LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:amen::angel:

The best way to increase your faith to prepare for anything the future holds, most importantly salvation, is to keep praying for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit which will literally send the Holy Spirit to be with and protect you.

John 3:3-7 (New King James Version)

3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”
5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’

I recommend materials from Voice of the Martyrs. They are an interdenominational organization to help Christians who are already being persecuted around the world. interdenominational includes all protestant faiths, Catholic, and Orthodox. It does not include mormons or Jehovah Witnesses.

I've found that being a devout Catholic in a world that is not -- is martyrdom

standing up for Jesus when it is more comfortable to stay silent and go along with the status quo is a martrydom

i don't believe in the rapture & the Bible does NOT support that theory, so i wouldn't worry about it

worry about how you will deal with truly following Christ because He said that there are few who find the narrow road that leads to eternal life. He said that many will try to enter Heaven but won'g be strong enough (Luke 13:24)

I don't believe in the rapture either. It worries me that so many protestants do. I do not know any Catholics who do. The ones I do know do not believe in it.

I have very good news for you on this subject. The government will never allow christianity to become outlawed. It is far too useful tool to control people with. Right now most of the country is one faith or the other. There would be a revolt. Personaly I have to worry alot more of bieng persecuted in my life for not bieng christian then a christain does for not bieng an atheist. So please put your fears to rest. This is never going to change. Its the same reason why there will never be an atheist president. The day will come much sooner when the government becomes a christian extremist group that will drag me and my family out of my house and kill us in the streets for not bieng.... <insert specific version of christianity here>
and yes that scares the crap out of me....

That is my same fear. I think I've read "A Handmaid's Tale" too many times.

Revelation 13:15 and it was allowed to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast could even speak and cause those who would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. Also it causes both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand of the forehead, so that no one can buy or sell who does not have the mark, that is , the name of the beast or the number of its name. This calls for wisdom; let anyone with understanding calculate the number of the beast for it is the number of a person. Its number is six hundred and sixty-six.

(President Obama has recently passed laws which will require a RF tracking device in people to obtain health information etc. We are not far from having the government demand all citizens to get the ID microchip or be jailed and beheaded. Government sites have been seen to receive modern guillotines at several bases and enough to supply the whole nation. They were imported from China and Japan. Chinese use guillotines to preserve the organs for transplant, as the gas and lethal injection ruin the organs. You can check online about Fulung Gong, a group working for peace and harmony, and the hundreds of thousands who are killed and organs used recently).

****************
Rev 2:7 Let anyone who has an ear listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches. To everyone who conquers, I will give permission to eat from the tree of life that is in the paradise of God.

Rev 3:10 Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Beware, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison so that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have affliction. Be faithful until death, and I will give you a crown of life. Let anyone who has an ear to hear listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches. Whoever conquers will not be harmed by the second death.

Rev 6:9 When he opened the fifth seal. I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slaughtered for the word of God and for the testimony they had given; they cried out with a loud voice, 'Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long will it be before you judge and avenge our blood on the inhabitants of the earth?' They were each given a white robe and told to rest a little longer, until the number would be complete both of their fellow-servants and of their brothers and sisters, who were soon to be killed as they themselves had been killed."

Michael Defeats the Dragon

Rev 12:10

Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, proclaiming,
'Now have come the salvation and
the power
and the kingdom of our God
and the authority of his Messiah,
for the accuser of our comrades
has been thrown down,
who accuses them day and night
before our God.
But they have conquered him by the
blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their
testimony,
for they did not cling to life even in
the face of death,
Rejoice then, you heavens
and those who dwell in them!
But woe to the earth and the sea,
for the devil has come down to you
with great wrath,
because he knows that his time
is short!'

Rev 13 5
The beast was given a mouth uttering
haughty and blasphemous word, and it was
allowed to exercise authority for forty-two
months. It opened its mouth to utter blasphemies against God,
blaspheming his name and his dwelling, that is, those who dwell
in heaven. Also it was allowed to make war on the saints and to conquer them. It was given authority over every tribe and people and language
and nation, and all the inhabitants of the earth will worship it. everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb that was slaughtered.'

(Brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, what will sustain us through the trials ahead if the fact that the ones that receive the RF tracking device, mircrochip, IDverichip will be the ultimate LOSERS in the end. Here is the evidence in Gods Holy Word.)

Rev 14:8 Then another angel, a second, followed saying, 'Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.'
Then another angel, a third, followed them, crying with a loud voice, 'Those who worship the beast and its image, and receive a mark on their foreheads or on their right hands, they will also drink the wine of God's wrath, poured unmixed into the cup of his anger, and they will be tormented with fire and sulphur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever. There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image and for anyone who receives the mark of its name.'
Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and hold fast to the faith of Jesus.
And I heard a voice from heaven saying, 'Write this: Blessed are the dead
who from now on die in the Lord,' Yes,' says the Spirit,'they will rest from their labours for their deeds follow them.'

The Bowls of Gods wrath

Rev 16Then I heard a loud voice form the temple telling the seven angels,
'Go and pour out on the earth the seven bowls of the wrath of God.
So the first angels went and poured out his bowl on the earth, and a foul and painful sore came on those who had the mark of the beast and who worshipped its image.
The second angels poured his bowl into the sea, and it became like the blood of a corpse, and every living thing in the sea died.
The third angel poured his bowl into the rivers and springs of water, and they became blood. And I heard the angels of the waters say,
'You are just, O Holy One, who are
and were,
for you have judged these things;
because they shed the blood of saints
and prophets,
you have given them blood to
drink.
It is what they deserve!'
And I heard the altar respond,
'Yes, O Lord God, the Almighty,
your judgements are true and just!'

:groupray:Jesus, let us hold fast to the Truth You have shown us. Let us accept the troubles that lie ahead, knowing that death has no hold on us, just as it had no hold on You. Those who comply with the government mandatory RFtracking device will be actually worshipping Satan by receiving it and their fate is much much worse then those who die because they refuse it.)

Rev 19 speaks of The Rejoicing in Heaven
Rev 20 Satans Doom
The dead are judged
Rev 21 The New Heaven and the New Earth
And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,
'See, the home of God is
among mortals.
He will dwell with them;
they will be his peoples,
and God himself will be with them;
he will wipe every tear from
their eyes,
Death will be no more;
mourning and crying and pain
will be no more,
for the first things have passed away.'

( The last book of Revelation is 22 The River of Life)

Rev 22 Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city. On either side of the river is the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, producing its fruit each month, and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. Nothing accursed will be found there any more. But the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servant will worship him; and they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And there will be no more night; thtey need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign for ever and ever.':wave::groupray:
Peace of the Lord be with you.

I certainly hope you are right, but what is your factual basis for this?

As far as preparing for martyrdom, the best way to prepare is to do what Y'shua did: He focused on "the joy set before him".

Always remember that a martyr has a part in the First Resurrection and therefore, the Second Death has no power over him or her. A martyr is destined for eternity in paradise. That is worth enduring whatever pain, suffering and sorrow that may come our way...

In the USA, you are probably correct. I would worry more about persecution for NOT being the dominant version of Christianity here.

However, stranger things have happened. I personally know folks who were smuggled out of Russia as children (they are now in their late 90s) and some who lost family members to severe religious persecution under the Soviet yoke. Bishops, priests, and monastics were specifically targeted.

PeachyMe,

Somewhere Paul testifies, "I die daily". As we walk in Christ we must lay down our preferences, our souls, our lives, for His purposes. As someone here has suggested, it's like a mini-martyrdom on a daily basis. And it has to happen no matter what our eschatology may be, or how things actually pan out on the macro level. It's a requirement of individual discipleship.

Beyond that, I would recommend subscribing to Voice of the Martry's newsletter. Also, there are some very edifying books that really sober the reader up and give a much better perspective on Christianity than the typical westerner might have: Fox's Book of Martyrs, The Early Christians in Their Own Words, etc. Also, some great missionary works such as the movie End of the Spear, and the book Brusko.

I don't understand peoples fixation with martyrs.

Okay, you may want to be one, but do you have the right to make your kids martyrs?

No, even if your child is a different religion, you aren't justified in committing infanticide.

It is a sad fact that Christians are the victims of most of the religious persecution in the world today. The original question was how do we prepare ourselves for martyrdom? I think the best way to is to learn from those who have endured great persecution, as in under the communists in the last 100 years or so. There are many books telling the stories of those who endured. Voice of the Martyrs is a good source. Also, read Foxe's Martyrs if you want a broader look. Those people all considered themselves tools in God's hand, to be used for His purposes. Many who endured through persecution didn't focus on martyrdom; they just seriously studied the word of God and tried to apply it to their lives. They left the rest up to God.

Tim's Stupid Question Of The Day:

"Why would you want to prepare yourself to be a martyr?"

That's what I would like to know.

I would rather prepare myself NOT to be a martyr.

Dying for Jesus is easy. Living...? Now that's another question.
